AN: Surprise update!!
If any of you are wondering what Guren sounded like, just imagine an English Dubbed Bakugou, basically.
From one chase right into another one. It didn't look like they would be able to properly rest anytime soon. Guren wondered if they were just that unlucky when it came to running away from someone or something.
"I've been meaning to ask you something, Guren." Sokka suddenly spoke up.
Facing him, Guren raised an eyebrow, prompting him to continue.
"That...necklace you pulled out. You said it was a gift. What kind of gift?"
Starting up such a topic was bound to grab more attention, and, viola, everyone's eyes were on him, except Toph's, because...you know...she's blind? Yeah...
Debating on whether or not he should say anything or not, he sighed. "It was a gift that was passed on. The scales belonged to my father's companion, a...Draequestria just like the one that came to our aid. He gave them to my mother and she gave it to me once we separated. That's all there is to it."
"And that Draeq...ques...stria?" Katara stammered at trying to pronounce the name, "Why did it come to our aid?"
Well, that was something neither Guren knew. "I'm not sure. My mother gave it to me and told me I could wish upon the scales when in need. I...forgot about it until that moment."
"Where are the scales now?" Aang questioned.
Now? "Destroyed, reduced to dust. It was a one-time thing, it seems."
"That sucks..." Sokka said as he leaned back, arms behind his head.
"It saved our asses."
Katara nodded, silently looking off into the distance. "Yeah. It sure did."
What a sour topic to bring up.
_
No matter where they landed, the...machine that followed after them would inevitably catch up.
"Seriously, what is that thing?" Katara asked, rubbing at her eyes.
Toph was at her side, draped over the edge of the saddle, arms hanging off the sides. "And how does it keep finding us?"
Guren hummed, resting his chin on his palm. "Fire Nation machinery. They sure do have some nasty tricks up their sleeves. They're also really persistent." He felt an oncoming yawn and lazily raised his hand to stifle it. One of his eyes closed as he yawned, the other quickly starting to water as his yawn just wouldn't die down.
"That's one long yawn. Are you alright?"
He turned in Katara's direction, noting the worry twisting her features. Gently waving her off, he replied, "I'm fine." But when yet another yawn broke through, a sole drop slid down his cheek. Why was his eye watering so much? Damn yawns!
Someone clicked their tongue. "Yeah, sure, and I have wings." Sokka spread his arms, comically flapping them. "You barely sleep as is, and look at the situation we're in now."
Oh? Was that worry Guren was sensing. "Aw, darling, worry about yourself more. Those dark circles really make me wanna jump you." He winked, purposely making it overexaggerating.
Sokka leaned away, a rather disturbed expression taking root. "Didn't you say I wasn't feisty enough?"
Biting back a laugh, Guren inched closer to him. "Don't take yourself for granted, love, we both know just how feisty you can get."
