Jinx's night went wonderfully. Nearly all the Foxchatchers marveled at the 7-month old's catch. Sky was walking her back home after the fox was put is a storage den. She couldn't wait.
"It's huge!" whispered a villager to Jinx. "We'll be well-fed for a season! Great job!" Jinx smiled up at him warmly. "Jinx!" Called out a voice ahead of her. "The fox is in the den. Let's go!"
Everything was silent except the crickets and wind mussing dead leaves. Jinx was surprised a storm hadn't started, since this was usually the time one boiled up.
"So, umm, how do you feel about me catching a fox before you?" Awkwardly said Jinx, trying to start a conversation. Sky chuckled. "I'm happy for you. Did you think I was jealous?" Jinx looked at the trees to her right. "No I just..."
"You thought I was jealous, didn't you, Jinx?"
"Sorry."
Sky smirked. "I guess I am a little, but who could ever blame me? That was the biggest fox I ever saw! And Jinx, you fought it so bravely, and-- you're even walking on the leg he bit!" Jinx grinned, but her reply was cut short by rustling in the distance.
