I was curled up in the corner of Nathalie's bedroom, whimpering, feeling utterly helpless and terrified. The room felt suffocating as the dim light struggled to reveal the details of our eerie encounter. Standing before me was the man named Anthony. A horrifying, mad smile adorned his face, sending shivers down my spine.
My voice quivered as I mustered the courage to say, "D-don't touch me, I-I'm Nancy V-Vanessa Adams! My f-father will k-kill you if you-" He yanked me up by my hair, his grip tightening, causing intense pain to course through my body. The knife was mercilessly poised at my vulnerable neck.
"Shut up, you brat. Nancy is with her parents, suffering from her amnesia, " he hissed, his tone dripping with disdain. How is that possible?
"Don't believe me?" he scoffed.
Anthony shoved his phone screen in front of me. The news article displayed the distressing headline: "Nancy Vanessa Adams Loses Voice and Suffers from Amnesia."
My eyes widened, disbelief mingled with confusion as I absorbed the shocking revelation. The image on the cover portrayed a brown-haired girl lying on the floor, her face blurred, while my mother knelt beside her.
What was my mother doing? Why was there a picture of someone who resembled me? It couldn't be true!
I raised my trembling hand and clicked on the news article. The screen filled with various images of a girl that bore a striking resemblance to me, standing alongside Lisa and my mother.
My heart sank like a stone in my chest.
Anger ignited within me as I stared at that girl in the picture. I want her dead. I want her on her knees, begging for me to spare her.
Nancy Vanessa Adams runs away, but when she is found once again, she is in a bad condition, the article detailed. She has lost her voice and her memories, refusing to admit that she is Nancy. She cannot even recognize her own biological parents. Her personal maid, with her order, had tested her DNA and seen that she is related to Madame and Sir Adams.
How could an impersonator be related to my parents?!
"False news!" I shrieked, my voice trembling with a mix of anger.
Anthony forcefully pushed me against the wall, an icy jolt reverberating through my body.
The phone slipped from his grasp, clattering onto the floor, momentarily forgotten in the chaos.
"W-wait! You said Nathalie was mute, right? Look at the phone! On the news, she said she lost her voice, and in the images, she looks identical to me! She's Nathalie, not me!" As the words left my lips, a flicker of surprise crossed Anthony's face. I dropped to my knees, desperate to convince him of the truth that had been obscured. "I'm telling the truth!
Anthony paused to consider my words.
I could recall having a younger twin sister named Nathalie that had been born mute. Was that Nathalie? I gritted my teeth.
"I'll take you to my mansion! I'll help you capture Nathalie as long as you don't hurt me!" I begged, my trembling hands reaching to take his.
Anthony eyed me suspiciously.
"I swear on my life I'm not lying!"
"Come on then, don't just stand there!" he commanded, beckoning me to follow him. Grateful for this unexpected glimmer of hope. "Let's go. But don't forget, until you take me to Nathalie, I can kill you anytime."
Of course. I want nothing but to be reunited with my family, and have that little impersonator dead. No one is allowed to steal my life.
