Astra POV:
Hogwarts ExpressAfter we leave the station and my dad leaves my view I start walking around searching for an empty compartment.
I've never really been a friend person really. My dad has always been my friend and I didn't really need anyone else. Whenever I tried to make friends they would either use me or bully me. And I don't really trust people anymore. Not after her. So everytime I board a train I find an empty compartment and stay there.
As I'm walking down the aisles looking for an empty compartment I stumble in a compartment with a girl. She had long blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Um hi, everywhere else is full. Do you mind if I sit here?" I ask.
The girl notices me and says, "Yeah sure. Come on in."
I sit down across from her and face the window. I could see the trees and mountains we were passing. There were some birds around and the occasional deer.
"I'm Lizzie, Lizzie Cambell. Pureblood, but my family doesn't really care about that whole pureblood supremacy. Pleasure to meet you," the girl, Lizzie, says, holding out her hand. I take it. "I'm Astra Black. And we don't believe in it either. Nice to meet you. What house are you in?" I ask.
"Well, I'm in Gryffindor and my friend, Josh, is also in Gryffindor. What about you? I don't think I've ever seen you around," she says sitting back down.
"Well, I'm new this year. But my dad was in Gryffindor and his family was in Slytherin. I don't know about my mom. I've never met her," I say.
"Nice. You seem like you could be in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff." At that moment a boy with light brown hair and green eyes entered the compartment.
"Josh! There you are!?" Lizzie says, jumping up and hugging him.
"Hey Liz. How was your summer? Oh, who's this?" The boy asks.
"Hi, I'm Astra. I'm new." I say, waving at him.
"Oh well, hi I'm Josh," he said sitting down across from me. "So are you a pureblood?" He asks.
"Um, I think so, yes. Why?"
"Oh well, I'm a muggleborn so if you're uncomfortable with me here, you can leave," he says.
"Um well, I'm not uncomfortable. My dad has always taught me to accept others, no matter their blood status," I say.
"Oh well, I'm also gay so..."
"Okay and? My dad is bi. I don't care," I say with as much Black sass as I could think of.
"Okay. Now that we got that out of the way, we can be friends." He says. This boy was odd, and straight-foward, but I like it.
"Yeah. I think we're going to be good friends," I say.
A while later, after pigging out on snacks and chatting, I started feeling sleepy. I decided to take a little nap when the train suddenly stopped and became super cold.
"Um, are we here?" I ask.
"No, we can't be. It's so dark I can't see anything." Josh answers from somewhere behind me.
I feel Lizzie come next to me and suddenly points at the window and says "Look! Someone's coming onboard!"
After a couple minutes of silence the compartment grows even colder by the second.
"Blimey, why is it getting so cold?" I ask. Before anyone can answer, a dark skeleton hand opens the door.
It was a hooded figure of sorts but with no face. It came near Josh first until it saw me. It came closer and closer till it was so close I could smell it. It started sucking all my warmth and happiness away. I read about these. Dementors. They suck the happiness out of you till there's nothing left. I could distantly hear Lizzie and Josh yelling my name and yelling for help. Just when I felt like letting go, something comes charging at the dementor full speed. A patronus. My dad told me about them.
After the dementor leaves I feel some warmth come back. The person who I assume casted the patronus enters the compartment. I recognize the man from that day at Diagon Alley, the one with the scars.
"Are you alright? That dementor seemed hungry," he asks.
"Yeah, yeah I'm okay. Thanks for saving me," I say.
"What did it want?" Josh asks.
"It was here for Peter Pettigrew. Here, take some chocolate," the man says, handing me a price of chocolate.
"Um, is it dark chocolate?" I ask. The man looked at me surprised then slowly nodded his head. With that I smiled and took the chocolate out of his hand. As I open it I realize he's still looking at me.
"Do you want an autograph or?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. Besides me Lizzie starts laughing and Josh covers it up with a cough. The man looks taken aback for a moment before answering.
"No no, my apologies. I should go have a talk with the conductor. Excuse me. Enjoy the chocolate." And with that the strange man left.
The minutes the door closed Josh and Lizzie started full on laughing.
"Wow, I knew Blacks had an attitude and sass but not that much," Lizzie said.
"What do you mean you knew Blacks had an attitude?" I ask.
"Well, the Blacks are known for being pure blood, their hair, and their attitude and sass. Never thought I would get to see it first hand. But that was worth it," Lizzie says, laughing.
"Yeah yeah haha. He kept staring at me, I was creeped out," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Well, anyways, are you okay? You looked sick," Josh said, changing the subject.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It felt like all my happiness was gone. I saw memories of me and my dad. They were happy, and then they turned dark. I never want to feel that way again. I just can't wait to see my dad," I say, hugging Zeus tight, who had jumped into my lap.
"Wait, your dad is a professor?" Josh asks.
"Yeah, a new one. But don't worry, he's cool and he's a prankster so I can get away with a couple of things," I say, laughing at the last sentence.
After a while of more chatting and eating my chocolate we got changed and we finally arrived for real. Hogwarts.
"Come on. I want to show you everything." Lizzie says, grabbing my hand.
"Sorry to burst your bubble but I have to go with the first years to be sorted. See you later." I say, walking away from them with my bags and Zeus in my arms, I walk with the first years where we board some boats to the castle.
When we finally arrive I see a lady in green robes and glasses. She was the one who came to my house that day. Then she looked a little more friendly but here I can tell she's someone who demands respect. I'll make sure not to get on her bad side.
"Come along first years. You are about to be sorted," the lady says, then leads us all inside a huge hall with an enchanted ceiling, my dad told me.
As I look around I spot my dad at the professors table and wave. He waves back and throws me a thumbs up.
"When I call your name you will come up and I will place the hat on your head. Beer, Madison." And pretty soon there was only me left.
The headmaster, Dumbledore, my dad told me, stood up.
"Everyone! I would like to introduce a new transfer student joining us this year. Miss Astra Black. Please come up to be sorted," the man says, pointing to the chair.
I walk up and sit down, when something covers my eyes and a voice talks in my head.
"Ahh, a Black. I haven't seen one in a couple of years. Yes, very kind and generous. Hufflepuff would be a good match for you. But you are smart and creative as a Ravenclaw. You would do well there as well. But I see a very cunning and sneaky personality to those you are not friendly with, a makeshift Slytherin. But something stands out. You are very loyal and brave. You will fight for everyone you hold dear, hmm very difficult indeed. You would fit well in any house, but only one house would you truly thrive in. Better be...."
