Tubbo POV
The cool, thick air lingered around me, leaving a thin coat of dew on the floor of the cave in which I am currently laying on. Light rays of sun peak through the opening of the cave, illuminating the burnt out remains of last night's fire. Through the light early morning buzz in my ears I can hear light chatter from the other side of the cave. Ranboo and Tommy must be talking about something. I strain my ears in order to catch what they are saying. I hear little snippets of things like 'city' or 'should take all day'. I decide it's about time I announce that I've woken up. Rolling over I stretch, hearing a multitude of cracks in the process. Turns out sleeping on the floor of a cave is not the most comfortable. I begrudgingly sit up rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. The light conversation between Tommy and Ranboo has since stopped, both of them are now looking at me.
"-mornin" I mumble, my voice still rough and sleep-ridden.
A chorus of 'Good mornings' are spoken from where the other Two are sitting. Now that I think about it I've never really seen them willingly talking to one another - especially tommy. Did I miss something or are they miraculously on good terms? I ignore my observation and remove myself from the sleeping bag in which I was tightly tangled in. I slip on the pair of slippers I found the other day and wander to the opening of the cave. I leaned against the jagged cold rock at the entrance of the cave, the goosebumps on my skin were soothed by the glorious, warm rays of sun tickling my pale cheeks. Today was one of the rare sunny days and oh my god I forgot how much I loved the sun. I felt the presence of someone else behind me and I turned around to find Ranboo, eyes closed, taking in the sun just as I was moments ago.
"Are we going to try to reach the city today?" He asked.
I thought about it for a moment before nodding my head. "Yeah I think it's worth a shot, the sooner we get the supplies the better. We should also look for somewhere to stay close to the city so we can get supplies easier."
This time it was him nodding his head. "Tommy and I were talking about the easiest and fastest way to get there. We decided that today is definitely going to be the best day to go considering it is actually sunny outside. We also think it would be best to go on the main highway."
I agreed then walked back into the cave and began to pack my backpack with the few things I still had. The faster we got to walking, the faster we would get to the city and ideally we would get there before it's dark.
I finished packing quickly and sat waiting outside the cave for the others, who were ready to leave shortly after I was.
We began to walk across the dry land towards the highway, marking the start of our journey.
-----------------------------
Hours passed since we started walking and my legs were very quickly becoming sore. The dry landscape hadn't changed much since we started, the only difference being more hills and a few more trees as well as slightly less dry ground. It was now almost midday and the sun was starting to heat up the road, making it so it was warm enough to take off our thick hoodies. The sunrays licked the pale expanse of my arms taunting my fair skin with the looming threat of a sunburn. Ranboo was walking next to me and Tommy was walking a few paces ahead of us. Everything was quiet except for the soft patter of our feet on the pavement and the low rustle of wind between the splotchy trees. I glanced over at Ranboo taking in the way the wind ruffled his hair then I looked ahead to where Tommy was walking, noticing the way he walked with so much pride and confidence hammered into each stride. How did I end up with such perfect friends?
"How much longer do you reckon it will take for us to reach the city?" my thoughts were interrupted by Tommy asking the same question for probably the millionth time this hour.
"Tommy we've told you already, we don't know but probably not for another while. Just relax." Ranboo answered in an annoyed tone.
"Ughhhhh I don't want to relax, I want to get to the city and get out and besides my legs are getting tired. Can't we just take a short break?" Tommy Whined.
I looked over to Ranboo with a questioning expression. If I was being honest I wouldn't mind a break either.
Ranboo looked at me before sighing and agreeing to take a short break. "Fine, whatever. Just let's not make it super long. 5 minutes at most." I could tell he was wary about even wasting 5 minutes and just wanted to get to the city as much as Tommy and I did.
We found an area just off the side of the highway to sit. It was shaded by the largest tree around - which wasn't actually that big, but still. We all sat and took out the water bottles we filled before we left. It was nice to finally sit after hours of walking. Unfortunately the relief was short lived and in no time we were being dragged to our feet by a very anxious Ranboo.
-------------------------
The rest of the afternoon passed slowly. We occasionally took breaks in order to rest our legs or drink some water, but otherwise it was just walking. The closer we got to the city, the thicker the foliage got and the more trees we saw. Eventually we started seeing patches of green grass splotched haphazardly over the hilly terrain. The grass splotches eventually began to dissolve into a blanket covering the ground. We started to notice weeds growing between the cracks in the road. Wild flowers lined the sides of the road and a field of what once was wheat covered a large portion of land to our left. We stared in awe as we walked, it had been months since we saw this much greenery. For some reason the town we were from had become a desolate wasteland filled with dirt and dust. But here, you could even hear the harmonious tweeting of birds and if you listened carefully maybe you could hear the squish of grass and moss under the hoofs of a deer.
The sun began to set and not long after the beloved city came into view. We all gasped with excitement when we could finally see the tops of the ivy covered highrises marking the center of the city. We approached with caution not knowing what to expect. The city was most likely infested with zombies but there were also other things that may be lurking in the shadows. As the winding streets and mainly identical houses came into view we all drew our weapons, just in case something went haywire.
We all let out a collective sigh of relief when we finally officially set foot into the city we had been walking all day to reach. We worked quickly and silently trying to find a house that would be suitable for us to stay the night in. Eventually we found a house that looked relatively intact and suitable for the three of us. We cautiously walked through the broken door weapons raised in preparation for anything that came our way. We slowly made our way through the house checking every room for possible threats. When we found nothing we moved some of the furniture in front of the door in an attempt to make what Ranboo called a 'makeshift door' we then proceed to set up our sleeping bags in the bonus room and we settled in for the night, intent on exploring first thing the next morning.
