A/N: TO ALL FUTURE DOCTORS OF WHICH I AM NOT ONE: don't be disappointed when I don't put in birthing details. I am a person who's not afraid of holding a frog, but when there's a birth scene in a movie I take off running. Maternity is the room I fear most in the hospital. P.S. I drew the picture of the happy family😊
13 July 2034
I'm exhausted, but having the two little angels out of me is all worth it.
Yes, two.
Here's what happened.
--seven hours earlier--
The bump was getting abnormally big now, and I was counting the days up to the due date.
It was earlier than I expected.
"Brandon, Baby's coming!" I said in a panic.
"A-Are you sure?" He asked, his eyes widening.
"Yes! I've been timing the contractions. They've started three hours ago." I replied, frustrated, and Brandon started running around in a panic, not being prepared for this situation.
"Okay... Uh... Should we go to hospital or something?"
"Yes! Come on, I have the baby clothes bag." I said and he grabbed the car keys.
He gently helped me down the stairs by letting me lean onto his shoulder. Halfway down, I felt a huge amount of liquid fall out of my pants.
"Crap! My water broke!" I yelled and Brandon started moving faster, desperate to get me to the car.
He helped me into the backseat and jumped onto the driver's seat. "Keep breathing. Just keep breathing, Nikki." He kept on repeating like my mother on my wedding day.
I huffed and puffed like an astronaut with a lack of oxygen, and screamed at the pain of the contractions. They were getting worse and more frequent.
He held my hand all the way to the hospital. At that moment, it was like a memory stick was plugged into my head, because all of the fears of a mother started evolving in my brain.
Half an hour later I was on a bed and a bunch of nurses were pushing me into the maternity room. Brandon followed all the way with me squeezing his hand until his knuckles turned white. He stroked my sweat stained fringe from my forehead. "Brandon, I'm scared. What if he hates me?" I asked him.
"He won't. I know he won't. He will be our son and we'll raise him together, as a family." His reassuring words and soft smile soothed me, but only for a few seconds because he disappeared and stayed behind the door of the maternity ward, and the contractions got even more unbearable.
The doctor walked in, still putting her gloves on. "How long have you been having the contractions?"
"Uh... Uh... About four and a half hours." I struggled to answer with the baby kicking like mad.
"Seems you've got an eager beaver. Okay, I'm going to need you to keep breathing, remain as calm as possible and start pushing."
A lot of screaming and pain later, baby popped out and the doctor caught him, but my contractions didn't stop, and I could still feel kicking.
Guess what... Half an hour later baby number two came out, and it was a girl. I couldn't believe it.
Twins.
They were twins!
I was so exhausted that I nearly fell asleep, but then a nurse came back in with the first baby, all wrapped up in a soft blanket. She gently handed him to me. I saw his face for the first time and a million different emotions went zipping through my mind until it stopped by the last one: love.
I threw the Jamie idea out of the window and decided to call my son Daniel. I breastfed him and he fell fast asleep.
Soon Brandon walked in, and he was holding the girl. He looked at her as a father would look at his daughter. He smiled at me with nothing but pure love.
A happy and relaxing atmosphere filled the room, and Brandon came to my side to let me see our daughter. She was so beautiful to me in ways I could not describe.
I breastfed her as well and she fell asleep by my side, with Daniel on the other side. "What are we going to call her?" Brandon whispered in order to not disturb the sleeping newborns.
"I'm not sure. What would you name her?" I whispered back. He looked at the fragile baby and smiled.
"Kristen." He said and I smiled.
"Your mother's maiden name." I said and he nodded.
"Nikki, they are so beautiful." He said and I could see tears of joy forming in his eyes.
"Here. Say hello to Daniel." I carefully handed Daniel to his father.
Daniel opened his eyes but didn't cry. He saw his father's face for the first time. He cooed at the sight of his face and Brandon cooed back.
He carefully lifted the baby in his arms. Only then did I spot the bags under his eyes, he was just as exhausted as I was. He fell asleep as fast as the baby resting on his chest.
I have to stop here and call it a day, since I'm going to fall asleep any second now.
'Till tomorrow, dear diary!
