I walked into an empty home. Mrs. Beets opened the door and smiled at me, asking if I would like to eat something. I quietly nodded, a sudden wave of sadness washing over me. I really wanted my parents to watch me dance, at least once. I had been in that club for a year now, and I had done many shows, but they'd never been to a single one. And today was special; it was my first solo performance. But I guess it was unavoidable. My parents were business tycoons, and they were dedicated to their work. I was studying hard to get into a good business school; though honestly, I'd prefer taking science. But I was the only heir to their big empire and it was not like I had a choice.

Mrs. Beets set the plate of food in front of me, breaking my chain of thoughts.

"How was your show?" She asked softly.

I looked at her and smiled. She had been with us ever since I was a baby and had given more attention to me than either of my parents.

"It was great," I replied.

"I hope they made a video. I want to watch your dance!"

That almost made me cry.

"They did, Mima. I'll make sure you watch it."

I used to call Mrs. Beets Mima. No one really knew why, but I'd made it up when I was younger and it stuck. It made me feel closer to her. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without my Mima.

She smiled at me again as I finished my food.

"Okay now off you go," she said, shooing me away with her hands. "You look really tired!"

"Relax Mima, I'm going!" I said laughing as I went upstairs to my room. She was right though, I really was tired; and it didn't take me long to fall asleep.

I woke up late the next day. It was a Saturday, so I didn't have to worry about school. I sleepily pulled myself off the bed and went downstairs, to find my parents already gone. Well I expected that; it was already ten thirty.

Seeing I had nothing else to do, I decided to get dressed and go to the dance club. Most people were taking a day off since it was a tiring event last night, but I didn't see the point of staying inside the house.

I was inside the club building around a half hour later.

"Hey Avalon," said my coach as he saw me approach. "Great that you came in today!"

I raised a brow at him. What is so special about me coming here?

"There's this guy who is pretty good at contemporary and he wants to join us. I was hoping you could give him a few pointers about the shows. And probably you could finally have a contemporary couple dance! I think you both would go well together!" He explained, noticing my confused look.

"Oh that's great!" I exclaimed. We had a lot of contemporary dancers in our club, but somehow, coach didn't find any of them suitable to dance with me. I never understood why, but I was glad he found someone he'd like to see with me.

"He's just gone to fill in a registration form. He should be in here soon and then we can start," Coach said.
I nodded.

Two minutes later, the door flung open and in came Theo. Crap, what is he doing here? He actually came to join this club?

I stared at him, my jaw hanging a bit.

"You two know each other?" Coach said.

"Yeah, we kind of met last night," Theo replied.

"Well that's great then! Trust me Avalon, this guy is going to be a perfect partner for you!" Coach said cheerfully.

"My partner?" I protested.
