———— THE ECHO OF A PEN TAPPING AGAINST A NOTEBOOK FILLED THE ROOM.

she had been studying for what felt like an eternity for her upcoming lab exam. she let out a frustrated sigh and dropped the pen, rubbing her temples as she got up to stretch. she glanced around the room, hands on her hips as she stared at the walls. kind of plain. despite having been here for a few months, she hadn't really taken the time to decorate the house. she looked at the time on her phone, seeing it was still a bit early.

a little shopping couldn't hurt.

she got her bag and headed out to the train, sitting patiently as it made its way towards kyoto's main shopping. she got off and looked around, trying to decide where she wanted to go first. she ended up at takashimaya and headed to the seventh floor, looking around for any art or decorative pieces for the house. she also wanted to get some picture frames and put family photos up. maybe it'd help with the homesickness.

she wandered around, eventually getting a vase and two frames. she didn't see much else she liked, so she went back out and looked to see if there were any smaller stores with anything. she picked up a few more small decorations and headed back to the train to get home. she felt her phone vibrate and looked to see yasunari calling her. she raised a brow before sliding the bar and holding the phone up to her ear, attempting not to drop the vase. "hey, what's up?"

"oh, hey. uh, just wanted to talk to you, i guess? unless you're busy, then i'm sorry for bothering-" he apologetically started.

"no no, it's alright. i was just out shopping, so you're definitely not bothering me."

"are you sure?"

"yeah. i'm actually heading home now anyways, so it'd be nice to talk to someone while i wait for the train."

"train?"

"i'm down in shincho. i wanted to get some things for the house."

"why didn't you say anything? i could've gone with you."

"didn't want to bother you."

"wouldn't have bothered me," she heard him mutter on the other end, causing her to crack a small smile. "get anything interesting?"

"yeah, i didn't have any photos or anything hung up, or any decorations at all really, so i thought i'd get some," she pursed her lips.

"oh, cool." she raised a brow.

"you don't sound very interested."

"what? no! i promise i am, sorry. natsusa is staring me down right now, and it is freaking me out."

"i'm sure it can't be that bad-"

"hey [n/n]!" natsusa sing-songed on the line. she could hear some rustling in the background, which she assumed was yasunari trying to get his phone back. "how are you doing?"

"i'm alright, natsusa, thank you for asking. how are you?"

"i'm doing amazing! ibuki came back, so i'll count that as a win. oh, here he is now! ibuki, say hi to [n/n]!" she heard someone in the background get louder as they walked over.

"hello [n/n]," she heard.

"hi," she chuckled.

"she sounds cute, how did yasunari get her number?" the boy teased, and she heard yasunari attempt to take his phone back again.

"[n/n], do you want to know what your name in yasunari's phone is?" natsusa asked. she heard ibuki laughing in the background, as well as a few other male laughs. they must've been at practice.

"natsusa, i'm going to kill you!" yasunari threatened in the background.

"is it worth mentioning?" she inquired.

"oh, definitely-"

"finally! jesus christ, i'm going to kill all of you," yasunari panted, taking a few breaths before his voice returned to full volume on the line. "i'm so sorry about them."

"it's okay! sounds like you guys are all really close. must be nice," she quietly pointed out. she saw the train coming and gathered her things. "train's here. i'll see you in class, yeah?"

"oh, uh, yeah."

"alright, b-"

"actually! do you, uh, want to maybe get dinner or something later when you get back? if not, completely fine, i understand-"

"you asking me out?" she smirked, teasing him a bit. she could imagine the blush on his face already.

"no! i mean- wait-"

"don't do it, [n/n]! he's a horrible date!" natsusa yelled in the background.

"you could date me instead," ibuki laughed.

"shut up!" yasunari groaned.

"oh, calm down, you big baby. how about dinner as friends?"

"dude, she just friend-zoned you!" ethan yelled in the background.

"damn, he'll never recover," tamashiro laughed.

"i'm going to kill myself," yasunari mumbled, taking a deep breath. "yeah, that works."

"aw, don't sound too down about it. it'll be practice for the real one. i'll see you at eight. i'll send you my address, yeah?"

"yeah- wait, did you say real one?" yasunari practically screeched.

"bye," she giggled softly, hanging up the phone as she took a seat on the train.

that boy was something.
