———— NO DOUBT HE'LL REGRET THIS.it had been almost three months since that night. [y/n] and yasunari had avoided each other like the plague. it was pretty successful. [y/n] had even transferred out of any classes they had together. she didn't want to see him at all. she stopped coming to rugby practice and games, and barely hung out with the rugby team in person. if they ever wanted to communicate with her, it was via phone. she made plenty of friends once she started going out more, and her house was a popular spot to hang out at. people were over almost every night. it didn't feel so empty anymore.
[y/n] decided that she didn't want to take people's shit anymore. she became the "it" girl, but not in the way you'd expect. people feared her presence. she radiated a scary, powerful aura that made people want to not get in her way. it also attracted many people towards her, and everyone was soon fantasizing about the girl they could have, but couldn't afford.
there wasn't a day that went by where people weren't talking about her, whether it was good or bad. she heard the whispers but ignored it. she wasn't going to be demeaned by people who didn't even know her. it was a waste of her time and energy.
natsusa and ibuki had been keeping a close eye on [y/n]. whether she noticed or not, they were always watching out for her, checking in on her, trying to talk to her for more than five minutes at a time. they were all still friends, but the dynamic changed because of yasunari. it was stupid, really, but they knew it was no one to blame. not like they could've picked sides either. both parties had valid reasons, and picking one over the other might've crossed several lines.
she stopped eating lunch with them, and they barely saw her around on campus anymore. she was relatively active on social media, so they knew where she was a lot of the time, but wished they could at least just have one normal outing. even the other guys on the rugby team missed her presence at practice and games. no matter how they were doing, she always cheered them on. the stands felt quieter without her.
yasunari felt like an idiot. he had essentially fucked things up for everybody unintentionally. the others on the rugby team would occasionally bring up [y/n], but would stop whenever he was around. it was awkward, to say the least. she had even transferred out of the classes they had together. he honestly hadn't seen her since that night; that was her intention.
he thought about her a lot. he found himself looking at photos of them from time to time and trying to keep up with her social media. he was almost positive she had deleted his number, but hers was still saved in his phone. he stared at it often, wanting to call her but figuring it wouldn't have been worth the trouble.
natsusa and ibuki had finally had enough of yasunari's slump that he was in and decided to drag him out. the entire rugby team tagged along, figuring the fun would be better in numbers. they bar hopped around town and just caused a ruckus around them. still, yasunari couldn't seem to get in the mood for any fun. they even tried talking to girls for him. didn't work.
eventually, he was overwhelmed and exhausted with everything and headed back to the dorms. natsusa offered to go with him, but he declined, wanting to be alone for a bit. so, he went home, drunk and upset.
yasunari sat on the floor, head leaned against the wall as he stared at the window across from him. in his drunken state, he looked at photos of [y/n] again, that tightening feeling in his chest returning as he looked at her. her smile, the way her eyes sparkled.
it hurt. everything hurt. he felt his stomach knot up as he went to his contacts, staring at hers. he was drunk, upset, and would probably forget about this in the morning.
yeah, he'd regret this.
he took a deep breath and pressed the contact, seeing the screen change to the phone call. he held the phone to his ear, hearing it ring. it wasn't long before the ringing stopped.
we're sorry, but the number you have dialed is not in service at this time. please leave a message.
he felt a lump in his throat, trying to decide if he should or not. what could it hurt, right? if she didn't want to hear from him, she could delete the message. simple as that.
alright, here goes nothing, he thought to himself, hearing the tone.
"hey, [y/n]."
