The warm light of the sun breaks through the tent, a single, gentle ray disturbing her peaceful sleep. (Y/n) crunches her nose, trying to place her head in any other position in order to avoid the light. The tent slowly opens, her eyes are still closed but she can hear him coming in. Her best friend, her brother, the only real family she has left, the guy who saved her life more than once: Thomas. (Y/n) opens her eyes, making contact with his own.

"Good morning, (Y/n)." He says.

"Morning Tommy." Thomas is (Y/n)'s big brother. He's helped her a lot, but so has she. When they first found themselves again, she was only six and WCKD had put her in the Maze with him. He made his personal mission to protect her from everything and everyone, and he was successful. It was strange, Thomas could barely remember his name, but immediately after he saw her, he knew he had to keep her safe. And she felt the same way:
(Y/n)'s heart kept telling her to stay close to him, make sure everyone respected him. But she didn't know why, at least not yet.

"Come on. Let's go." Thomas tells her. It's time for her to wake up. She groans and rolls over in bed, trying to cover herself from his eyes. Thomas grabs the sheet and pulls it off of her, but she promptly pulls it back towards her and uses it to cover her head. "Come on! It's late already. Get up." Thomas says. (Y / n) groans again, sighing.

"Ten more minutes ..." she says.

"No no, come on, get up. It's almost 10:00. You've already slept enough." Thomas gets up and opens the tent, letting all the sunlight in. The powerful rays of the sun penetrate between the sheets and directly hit (Y/n)'s eyelids.

"Tommy!" she half groans half yells. Thomas, being a big baby every time he's with her, giggles and claps his hands twice.

"Let's goo, come on. Newt, Gally come in here." he calls him, seeing the boys outside preparing breakfast. Gally nods and jogs towards the tent where (Y/n) is "sleeping", and Newt places a plate on a table before doing the same.

"You're still in bed?!" Gally says with an awfully high voice for someone who's just woken up. "Come on kid, up, up. I'm making breakfast for you, if you don't eat it I will." this causes (Y/n) to get out of bed immediately, her hair is messy and tousled, her eyes visibly puffy like everyone when they wake up. "See? you have to know how to deal with kids. you're too kind, too quiet ..." Gally says turning to Thomas.

"And by the look in her eyes I can tell you're way too loud Gally..." Newt says chuckling.

"Next time you open the tent and blind me I swear I'll run away." (Y/n) says glaring at Thomas. Gally snorts and shakes his head.

"And who'll finish all the ice cream in the evening after dinner if you run away?" he jokes looking at (Y/n).

(Y/n) gets out of her warm tent, walking to a bench near the table where Newt put her breakfast. She sees Thomas talking to Gally with a confused expression and she decides to join them, curious to know what's going on.

"What are you guys talking about?" she asks them.

"Minho left to go help a group of survivors make it through the Scorch Trials." Thomas tells her. She lightly gasps: knowing that she'll make new friends makes her happy, but there's always a hint of fear whenever she thinks about going back to the Scorch Trials.

"There they are!" Gally says pointing to the spot where two mountains meet and (Y/n) sees Minho and the others slowly emerge from the hills. It takes them a little less than an hour to arrive and when they do, (Y/n) and the others greet them excitedly.
Some time later, around dinner, after welcoming the newcomers with love and laughter, (Y/n) asks Thomas to light a bonfire. The sun has now set, and it is starting to get cold. In addition, every night they light a bonfire to remember the friends lost during the journey: Teresa, Chuck, Winston, Ben, Alby, Jeff, George, Rachel, Mary, Barkley and many others.
The worst thing is that everyone has lost someone, so every spark that springs from that fire is in their memory. Thomas settles his plate down, standing up.
