I woke up bright and early in the morning. Yay! *hint the sarcasm*.

I looked over at Eli and Dallas... Sound asleep.

Slowly I got up and made my way down the stairs. I walked through the corridor to the kitchen.

"Oh, good morning Janice", Jayden called over to me. "Oh hi", I smiled.
"What are you making?" I asked him.
"Just some scrambled eggs", he smiled at me.
"Would you like some help?" I offered.
"Yea, would you mind getting some plates out?"

I turned round and bent down to the cupboard. I open it up and reached for the first plate. Then it dawned on me.
Jayden?
"Jayden?" I called turning round.

He wasn't there. Neither was the things he was cooking with. I sat with my back against the wall and my eyes looking up. Tears started to fill them. I missed them all already. We're all going to die as well. One by one we will go, it's just a matter of time. Why did I have to be one to survive?

I put my head down on my knees for support. I started to cry. Scarlett, she was like one of my best friends, I've known her since I was small. we didn't talk as much as I would've wanted to but yeah.

Chantelle, I used to hang out with her and Mia like every lunch at school.

Then there was Jayden, we sat beside each other, not willingly. He was one of those people who could make you like them, at any time, but deep inside you try to hate them because you know that's not what they're really like. Just in the matter of seconds however, he was gone.

Like the rest of them.

I had sat crying for about two minutes. Non-Stop crying. Thinking how things were. About family. My sister. I was lucky to have Jake, no-one else has their family with them. And I was the one crying?

Maybe it was the effect of staying in this house, practically our holiday house. With all the memories. I didn't think of what had actually happened until now.

All laws have gone.
You could kill anyone.
Break into anything.
Steal all the worthless jewels.
Rob a building that has millions of paper of which has pictures of random people that don't matter anymore.
And you could die at any second with no one to avenge you. Or settle for justice.

I hated the new world.

I felt a arm wrap around my shoulders which made me jump. I looked up slightly and saw Eli. "Morning", I smiled, tears still rolling down my cheek. I sat up properly, folding my legs. Then I turned my body to face him.

He was kneeling on the ground beside me. "Are you okay?" He questioned worried.
"I miss them", I replied honestly, looking down.
"I think we all do".
I put a fake smile on and looked back up at him.

Eli stood up, holding out a hand to haul me up. I took it and got up. He let go of my hand and pulled me into a hug. I rested my head on his shoulder and I placed my arms around his neck.

After a couple of moments I stepped back, my arms still in place. I looked up at his eyes and stared and smiled. Everything seemed to not matter, you could forget anything.

Have you ever looked into someone's eyes and been captivated in that one moment. Nothing else matters. The world around has paused just for this one moment.

This is how I feel right now.

I leaned in forward to Eli's face. As he did to me.

Suddenly, I got awoken from my daze. The sound of footsteps coming from the stairs had disturbed us.

Quickly I let go of Eli and moved to the other side of the kitchen. "Oh morning, Alexander", I greeted. "Mornin'" he replied smiling.
"Is anyone else up?" Eli questioned him.
"Yea, Dakota. She's just coming down".

With that, Dakota came scrambling down the stairs and stood beside him. "We'd better wake up the other 3 and get to work", I ordered. Eli sighed and left the room and jogged upstairs. I looked at the other two in the room and then we started to head upstairs.

I went into my room. Eli and Dallas were sitting awake on the bed.

"Hey Dallas", I smiled.
"Hi", he replied sleepily.
"Im away to wake up Jake and Mia, you's get dressed", I ordered. Dallas nodded at me.

I stood up and walked out the door into the corridor.

I quickly knocked on Jake and Mia's door. "Come in", I heard Mia's voice call. I opened the door and walked in. Jake was still sleeping on the bed with his hoodie.

Mia was standing up sorting out her hair with a brush she had taken in her school bag. She was wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a red Abercrombie hoodie.

However, I was still wearing my clothes from yesterday. I planned to wear practically the same outfit as Mia.

"Jake! Jake! Wake up!" I called over to Jake.
"Hmmm, what? Yea..." He replied half asleep.
"Make sure he gets changed soon", I ordered Mia. She nodded at me. Then turned her head to face Jake and smiled.

After we were all changed and ready to start, we headed downstairs.

"So let's split up. Dallas, Alexander you's check the garden for any zombie things. Be careful. Mia and Dakota, go outside with them and check for any scrap cardboard to block up the windows and doors. Then Eli, Jake and I will go down to the beach and collect wood and anything else to build a fire or block up doors and windows", I instructed them.

We all went to grab our weapons and got started at our own tasks. Jake and I went to get some large wood bags from the coal cupboard and took the two out.

We got the keys and opened the first door out into the small foyer. My readied our weapons in our hands. For at any point I might need to swing. I unlocked the main door and stepped out. Nothing so far.

Eli and Jake followed me. I turned back to the door and locked it. We went out of the mini front garden, through the gate. The wall and gate didn't go to much a high height, went up to about my waist, but it would trip the zombies up.

We looked out onto the road and saw about 4 zombies. Attempting to keep quiet, we quickly ran softly to the other side of my the road. Failing however. The 4 zombies turned their heads and faced us. I picked up the nearest big rock and went over to a zombie. Equipped with a bat in one hand, and a rock in the other.

I swung by bat and it crashed into the side of it. The zombie stumbled to the side. I drew my rock back and slammed it into its skull. It thumped to the ground. Still holding the rock, I bent down and crashed it into the skull again. Which sent red all in the ground.

Anger rushed through me. How could no one have seen this coming? Why did this happen?

Then the guilt. Chantelle. It was ALL my fault. I shouldn't have blamed it on her. I felt so bad.

"Janice!" Jake snapped at me.

I looked up at him and back down at my hands. I had just kinda blanked out in my thoughts... Zombie brains were spread across the ground with the rock still left in my hands, covered in blood.

Quickly, I snapped out of it. I dropped the rock and carried on over to them with my bat and bag.

I crunched my feet over the sticks and wood at the beach. Fortunately, there was no zombies on the beach. Picking up a piece, I examined it and plopped it into the bag.

My plan was to get as much wood as possible and boarder up the windows and barricade the doors. There was some tools in the shed to do this. Also quite a bit of wood that the other group would've collected.

After a while we had taken quite a lot of wood. I had thrown in a few sticks as well for the fire. The whole time we were mainly silent. It was awkward, although I didn't know how to break the tension. What kind of things would I say?

"I think we've got enough", Eli called out to us both.
"Yea we'd better start heading to the house", Jake agreed. I nodded my head in agreement.

Today was going to take a lot of work...
