After a good three hours of talking about said nightmares, without of course mentioning that Crabbe, Goyle and Malfoy were the ones responsible, and about other more or less interesting subjects, the trio separated to finally start their night of sleep. And to make sure that Hermione had a peaceful night, Ron had suggested that Hermione think of memories or happy moments just before she closed her eyes, in order to banish any apprehensions she might have about the night ahead, and at the same time, perhaps, avoid having the dreaded nightmares again.
And Hermione followed his advice; just before letting herself fall into the arms of Morpheus, she let herself be lulled by happy memories.
She saw herself in her parents' arms, euphoric, the day she received her letter, she saw herself succeeding in her first spell, she saw herself bickering with Ron, and she saw herself the day she realized she could love him, she saw herself free, the day she and her parents went to the country, she saw herself being carried by the wind... she saw herself crying with joy thank to her friends... she saw herself happy. She saw herself knowing this ephemeral happiness. This last adjective escaped her, and she was able to fall asleep with a smile on her lips, without any troubles and without crying.
Almost a week had passed and Hermione still hadn't done what she had planned to do, which was to confront Draco Malfoy so that he would stop his childishness. Speaking of childishness, she was surprised to have had a break during this week, but she was wary. He must have been up to something bigger. She'd had the luxury of having to put up with him for several years now, so she knew he'd come back at her every chance he got. She knew she had to be on her guard. But the more she thought about him, the more she remembered the last incident he had caused and her last somewhat disturbing encounter with him. Even though she was disoriented that day because of what had happened, she could have sworn she saw an ounce of regret in his eyes. And his hand that had come to wipe away her tears...
But what was she thinking? This was no time to be rambling! Besides, she would meet him in a few minutes for the potion class. At this thought, her heart emitted a purr that she had not known for ages.
- You must be too nice, Hermione, to end up feeling sorry for that Slytherin idiot!" she sighed to herself as she interpreted his heart reaction. Don't be fooled; it's only a decoy.
- Are you talking to yourself, Hermione?
- Oh Harry, I didn't see you come. Yes, it's useful sometimes to put one's thoughts in order," she tried to justify herself to her friend with a mocking smile.
- And in what kind of thoughts would you like to put order?
- Nothing very important!
It was completely unthinkable for her to talk to Harry about these things, even if he was her best friend. And besides, especially because he was her best friend and her boyfriend's best friend, and as if that wasn't enough, the worst enemy of the one she was thinking about, in other words Malfoy Jr. If he knew what had happened, she could only imagine what he would do on a whim. He may have been the chosen one, but he could be quite stubborn and impulsive when he wanted to be. And if Harry found out, it would mean that Ron would end up being one too! And if anyone could be worse than Harry in terms of impulsiveness, it was him! Where was he anyway?
- Class is about to start," said Hermione as they came into the room. Where is Ron?
- Probably puking his guts out in the bathroom. He lost a bet to Fred and George and ended up having to play their guinea pig," Harry continued, seeing his friend's questioning look. Their Diagon Alley business is doing pretty well, but apparently nothing beats the help of family... I have a feeling he's going to be getting a lot of owls in the next few days.
