When the Dark Wizard's arrival was announced, Draco was obliged to come down and meet him. However, the Mage didn't seem to care that much about him. He dismissed him and went off to talk to his other disciples. The Slytherin put up with this and returned to his room.
He'd completely forgotten he was supposed to be at Hogwarts, in his dormitory at the moment. So many unexpected things had happened that he'd forgotten all about his Potions classes. In any case, Professor Snape himself had told him to leave, so he saw no point in worrying. For now, he had to think of a way out of the manor without being suspected of anything. And now that Blaise was gone, that was likely to be a little more complicated.
A few meters away, still in the manor, Voldemort was at the top of the central tower, in the company of the master of the house.
- So, the Mudblood managed to escape... Wouldn't your son be the cause of her escape?
- No, Master," said Lucius, bowing. The Death Eaters who were present said he had nothing to do with the incident.
- You're not hiding anything from me, are you, Lucius?" hissed Voldemort defiantly.
- I wouldn't dare, Master...
Voldemort analyzed his loyal disciple's expression and left without saying a word, an unhealthy smile drawn across his face. Lucius Malfoy would have liked to know what this vicious wizard was thinking. That smile didn't bode well, and he knew it. What he also knew was that he'd have to stay out of his master's way if his master had taken it into his head not to speak to him again. Thus resigned, he returned to his office, hoping not to be disturbed.
An hour had already passed and Draco hadn't stopped thinking of a way to get out of the manor to look for Hermione without being suspected. So far, he had only worked to succeed. But the task was looking more difficult now, so he knew he had to outsmart all those corrupt people currently occupying the manor. But the more the minutes passed, the more he felt unable to come up with anything effective enough. He badly needed to stretch his legs, but he didn't want to run into the monster responsible for all his problems.
Despite this, Draco left his room and wandered the dark corridors of the manor, hoping to find a solution. After a few minutes, as he passed the stairs leading to the entrance of Hermione's former prison, he came face to face with the man he had been trying so hard to avoid. The encounter had been so unexpected that he felt his heart pounding hard in his chest.
The flat-nosed man in front of him smacked of swagger, which Draco found repulsive, but he showed nothing of it and simply turned to avoid his gaze, his face closed. He had no intention of starting a conversation with this character, so he continued on his way. But Voldemort didn't seem to hear him the same way.
- You seem to be in a great hurry, Draco..." he began, in a tone that did not inspire confidence.
- I don't want to disturb you," tried the Slytherin, who wanted to get it over with quickly.
- How could the son of my faithful servant disturb me?
The mere fact that Voldemort had uttered this sentence intrigued the tall blond. It was not in his habit to utter such "honeyed" phrases. So he didn't know whether to be concerned or delighted. But it didn't take him long to realize that Voldemort had in no way decided to be nice.
- I went for a walk downstairs," continued the Dark Mage in the same tone. I'm pretty sure I spotted a few drops of Polyjuice...
No sooner had he uttered these words than Draco's heart leapt into his chest. He felt as if his legs had weakened at the mere mention of the word. His fears were confirmed; Voldemort must have suspected something. But he had to keep his cool and show that nothing could get to him. So, in a tone that he wanted to be as calm as possible, without showing that this remark kept him indifferent in the wrong way, he replied:
