"Mackenzie Grace Bennett!" My mother's shrill voice rang through the hospital.
"I'm sorry ma'am, but only family is allowed back here." My nurse told my mom.
"I AM family. I'm her mother." She rudely informed her.
How would the staff know she was my mother, it's been about a month and she hasn't even so much as called me.
My mother signed me out and drove me home, giving me a lecture on road safety.
When we finally got home, I went straight to my bedroom. My mother didnt protest this, so all the "I've missed you so much" and "I'm so glad you're safe" bit was all bull.
It was Saturday, meaning I would he able to go to school this Monday. I was nervous to be honest.
Rick and I broke up, and be and Deb were dating officially. Axl had been talking to Morgan, a girl on the cheer team. I wasnt exactly sure who I was gonna hangout with come Monday.
The Hecks were out of town to celebrate Sue's birthday that they forgot, and go to Bricks spelling bee in Chicago.
I didnt have a car anymore, and there wasnt any food in the house so I decided to walk over to the Donahues. I knew they would be happy to feed me."Kenize you're home!" Mrs Donahue said when she answered the door.
"Yeah, I wasnt that hurt I just needed my mom to sign me out." I laughed. "Speaking of my mom, shes been busy and hasn't had a chance to go shopping and I dont have a car now so I was wondering if-"
"You come right in dear, we were just sitting down to dinner." Mrs Donahue let me in.
They made me a place at the table and dished me huge portions. The Donahues always knew how to make you feel at home. I was glad I had such great neighbors.
It was Sean's night to do dishes so I decided to help him out. He wasted no time in pulling me aside and asking me about my mom.
"Okay no bullshit Kenzie, why didnt your mom sign you out for a week?" Sean whisper yelled to me.
"Work." I answered simply.
"Ken you might be able to trick my mom with that work bullshit, but I dont buy it for a second. What's going on?"
"I don't know, shes gonna half the time and I never know where she is. I think she goes into the city to go to clubs and gamble. I dont really know or care." I said drying a plate.
"Look Ken, my mom loves you. Why don't you just live with us?" Sean said, pulling the dish from my hands.
"Sean... I couldn't."
"Mackenzie you cant keep living like this. It isn't healthy. Being alone isn't good for anyone." Sean was leaning over me at this point, looking down at me due to the height difference.
In the soft light from the kitchen, Sean looked different that when we were all sitting at Axls house watching movies. I could sense a thickness in the air that I've never felt when being alone with Sean before. Sean must have sensed it too because before I knew it, his lips were on mine.
Our lips moved in sync for a moment. Sean pulled away and started to apologize, but I quickly put my lips on his once more.
Sean's hands moved to my waist and I wrapped mine around his neck. His lips moved to my neck and I couldn't help but let out a soft moan at the feeling.
All at once we both realized we were making out in his parents kitchen and we pulled away. Feeling the awkwardness of the whole situation, we both let out a laugh.
Soon we couldn't control our laughter and it carried throughout the whole house.
"What's so funny you two?" Mrs Donahue poked her head into the kitchen.
"Nothing mom." Sean said "I'm gonna walk Kenzie home now."
"Okay, goodbye dear, do come by again." Mrs Donahue bid me goodnight.
The night ended with Sean and I kissing once more on my porch, and Sean offering me a ride to school Monday since I was now carless.
It seemed that my life was finally looking up.
