Sean and I were now officially dating.
I know I know, hes Axls best friend. But to be fair Axl was dating Morgan who was one of my best friends.
My mom had started being more present and actually had a job at the doctors office as a receptionist.
Morgan, Axl, Sean and I all got along great. It wasnt as awkward as one might've thought. After every basketball game, the four of us went out for pizza and sometimes saw a movie.
Afterwards Sean would drive me home, but on nights like tonight, we would take a detour to the lake.
There was a spot that all couples went to to makeout. Of course we were cliche like that, so we went just like every other couple.
Sean was sweet, he didnt push me to do anything I didnt want to, but he was still a teenage boy and I could sense that he was wanting more.
It wasnt that I didnt want to, it was just that I still wasnt a hundred percent sure that Axl wasnt out of my heart.
I liked Sean a lot, but I had feelings for Axl since I was twelve. There was a lot to let go of.
Before I gave myself fully to Sean, I wanted to make sure I was totally and completely in love with him.
"Ken are you ready to go home?" Sean asked after a while of silence.
"Yeah, if you dont mind." I told him.
"Anything for you m'lady." Sean said, starting the car.
As we passed Axls house, I could see he was on the porch with Morgan.
He looked upset, the conversation seemed to me like it was a breakup.
"Yeah Ax, hes totally gonna get some." Sean said as we sat in my driveway.
"Boys are so dense, it looks like shes breaking up with him."
"What? No way. I bet you twenty bucks they're about to get into his car." Sean confidently offered.
"Alright you're on."
I was proven to be the winner when Morgan ran off and Axl slowly walked into his house.
"Ouch." Sean said noticing his friend would not in fact be "getting some".
"Well you owe me twenty bucks, but you're cute so I'll let it slide." I said, kissing Sean on the cheek and getting out of his car.

I had been getting some math homework done when I heard a knock on my door.
I answered it to reveal a distraught looking Axl.
"Axl?"
"Kenzie."
I opened the door further, signaling Axl to come inside.
"Morgan dumped me. She said I was too fun and not focused enough or something like that. You always know how to cheer me up so I thought you could make cookies with me or something." Axl explained.
"Axl. Um. I dont think that would be appropriate. I mean i have a boyfriend and well-"
"Yeah i know. I just thought you were still my best friend so..."
"I'm still your best friend, but I just think that maybe we should hangout in a group." I tried to explain.
"I get it, whatever." Axl turned to leave.
"Just dont come crawling back to me when he breaks your heart." Were the final words Axl left me with that night.
***
It was the night of the state qualifying basketball game and my leg had healed enough for me to cheer in it.
Sean was starting and I was excited to finally be able to cheer for him, and not just sit in the stands.
It seemed that Axl was excited Morgan was a cheerleader as well, as he was now standing in front of her, threatening to not shoot the winning shot if she didnt take him back.
She of course didnt, and we lost.
I wasnt sure why Axl thought these immature actions would sway Morgan to take him back, especially when she broke up with him because of his immaturity.
It seemed I was finally seeing Axl for who he was. An immature 16 year old boy.
It was in that moment that I knew I was over him completely.
Maybe I didnt love Sean, but I was certainly ready to love him with my whole heart, nothing was saved for Axl anymore.
