"letting go, letting go. telling you things you already know."

it was meeting after meeting. things kept happening, first there was a traitor and kokonoi was taken, and now suddenly you're preparing to go against tenjiku. sure, you knew it'd happen, but life was going so fast. it was scary. "the emergency meeting for our battle against tenjiku begins now! today, on the twenty second of february, toman and tenjiku will have a dispute! the war is finally beginning! they claim themselves to be a ''criminal organization'. they will use dirty tricks." you flinched as hakkai yelled out, interrupting draken. "then toman will do the same! we'll fuck them up! one the way here, taka got attacked! smiley too! we were on our bikes, and those tenjiku fuckers hit them with metal pipes! they're unconscious in the hospital! those fuckers will attack by any means! at this point, toman will lose! look around you!"

hakkai seemed stressed out, much more than any fourteen year old should be. "the first division is all injured, the second and fourth division captains aren't here, neither is the third! and the fifth division's captain is a traitor!" everyone cheered until a loud bike engine started up. peyan. "shut the fuck up.. you're so scared, you're thinkin' of usin' weapons and sneak attacks? pah got arrested for using weapons. i attacked draken out of anger, i played dirty. mikey said, 'i don't want to fight with the likes of you'. that's why i'm here right now. so.... i'm not gonna fignt like a coward!" now, this man did get you stabbed, but you couldn't say he was wrong. "hakkai, i understand your anger. but look at mikey!" oh the way your heart ached, all of these people were kids. hell, you were a kid. well, you think, the whole time line thing was still confusing.

"i want you to stay with mitsuya and smiley, hakkai. i'm not worried, but the second they wake, they'll want to fight. i need you to stop that from happening. it'll be hard for me if i'm worried, leave your mission to takemichi's team. listen, you guys! we might not have our captains with us, but i'm here! so everything will be okay!"

"thanks for coming with us, n/n!" you smiled at emma as both of you walked behind mikey. the three of you were approaching shinchiro's grave, until you realized you weren't the only one's there. takemichi, inui, and a boy you didn't recognize were there. it was clear by their faces they hadn't been expecting you. "wow, visiting the grave with your beloved sister!" you immediately took emma's hand in your own, not liking the vibes. "takemitchy, take emma and n/n away."

your cousin didn't take you very far, no, only outside the gates of the cemetery. "that guy is izana, isn't he?" it seemed like you were the only clueless one here. "there's going to be a fight, right? is that all guys do?" you felt emma squeeze your hand. " 'the invincible mikey' mikey shows nothing but his strength to everyone. when shin died, when baji died, no matter what, mikey never showed his weakness to anyone. other than maybe f/n, right?" you sent her a small smile, emma really was a sweet girl. "he still can't sleep without his old blanket, he's still a weak kid deep down. so, whenever there's trouble, i'll help mikey no matter what! just like he does! man, that sounded too cool, huh?" she was like a little girl talking about how when she grew up she wants to be 'just like big brother!' "want anything to drink?"

takemichi agreed, as emma told you both to wait. she dispensed three drinks from the vending machine across the street, happily walking back. that's when it hit you, the motorcycle. as you turned it was speeding towards you- no- towards emma. out of sheer panic, you ran, pushing emma backwards. the bike slammed roughly into your rib, before a metal pole smashed into the top of your head, sending you backwards. you heard someone yell "damnit!" as the bike continued speeding away. a hit and run? "f/n!" you could make out emma's voice, she was fine. she's fine.

you're fine, it's fine.

"n-n/n, no! you shouldn't have- you're- your head and! you... that was meant for.. me and you- you-.." is this what dying felt like? it wasn't as good as you had expected. "..n/n?" it was hard to make out what they were saying. you could feel yourself being moved, were you on someone's back? "mi..key?" where were you going? "yeah, it's me. we're almost at the hospital, you'll be fine." it was hard to see. "what... did you do to me?" it was hard to hear. "i.. i didn't do this. it was.. probably an attack from tenjiku." it was hard to breathe. "i know. a few years ago.. i would've been fine with dying. but you..." it was hard to talk. "i don't know why you're saying stuff like that. you aren't going to die." it was hard to understand. " 'm tired, mikey." it was hard to feel his nails digging into your legs. "stay awake, okay? we're almost to the hospital. you'll be fine." it hurt to think. "i will, mikey."

it hurt to lie.

"you're going to be fine. we're going to defeat tenjiku, remember? and after that, we'll stop, okay? you'll never have to get hurt again. then, you'll scold me for ever fighting in the first place. you'd marry me, right? when we're older? you and emma would get to be sisters. she'd take you dress shopping, and she'll cry because it'll remind her of when she picked out her own dress. i'd order a cake that's way too big, and you'll complain because i ordered chocolate and you didn't want your dress to get messy. but that won't matter, i'll wait till the after party to shove it in your face. we're going to have a future together, you'll be okay. we'll win, and then i'll tell you i love you."

it hurt to live.

but more than anything, it'd hurt to die.
