Sebrina stared at the building. It was beautiful, towering, and a little too perfect—like it knew it was better than you. With a deep breath and a half-hearted prayer to the gods of job interviews, she walked inside.

Approaching the reception desk, she was met with a woman whose smile was so sharp, Sebrina was certain it could cut through steel.

"Good morning, ma'am. How may I assist you today?" The receptionist's smile didn’t falter for a second. Was she even human?

"I'm here for an interview," Sebrina responded, her voice steady despite the nerves doing cartwheels in her stomach. "For the assistant position."

The woman nodded like she had heard this exact line a thousand times today. "Ms. Flores?" she asked, pointing like Sebrina was about to be auctioned off.

"Yeah, that's me."

"Follow me." The woman turned on her heel, leading Sebrina toward the elevator. They stepped inside, and the receptionist pressed the button for the 20th floor.

Sebrina glanced up at the floor number. *Twenty?* Did this place have enough drama for 20 floors?

The elevator dinged, and the woman led her to a massive wooden door. "Mr. Kai Hunt is inside," she said, before vanishing like a ghost with a perfect manicure.

Sebrina stood there for a moment, adjusting her clothes and mentally cursing the shoes that had already betrayed her feet. Then, she knocked once, took a breath, and let herself in.

Kai Hunt.

Her eyes locked onto him immediately. Oh, she *knew* Kai Hunt. The world knew him. She’d read about him in enough magazines to understand why half the female population was obsessed with him. But seeing him in person was… next level. The man was all charming grin, sharp suits, and the kind of confidence that made you wonder if he ever doubted anything in his life.

"You must be Ms. Flores," he said, raising an eyebrow as if amused by her presence.

Sebrina nodded, trying not to look too flustered. "Yes, that’s me."

"Please, have a seat." His voice was smooth, and he motioned to the chair across from him. Sebrina’s legs felt a little weak as she walked forward and sat down.

"Morning, Mr. Hunt. It’s a pleasure to meet you," Sebrina said, her voice more composed than she felt.

Kai smirked, leaning back in his chair. "The pleasure is all mine." There was something in his tone—something that hinted he was used to getting whatever he wanted.

"So, Ms. Flores," he began, glancing at her resume. "You have a degree in financial business, but you’re applying for an assistant position. Care to explain?"

*Well, because every other company rejected me, and now I’m broke.* Sebrina thought, biting back the sarcastic comment.

Instead, she smiled sweetly and delivered the professional line she'd rehearsed a dozen times. "I want to build my skills from the ground up. I believe starting as an assistant will give me the experience I need to be more proficient in the future."

Kai hummed, a hint of a smile on his lips. "Beauty with brains. I’m impressed."

Sebrina blinked. *Wait. Did he just… compliment me?*

"Ms. Flores, you may start tomorrow. Ms. Williamson will give you the details." He stood, extending his hand.

Sebrina shook it, trying not to let her excitement show too much. "Thank you, Mr. Hunt. I look forward to working with you."

She smiled, turned on her heel, and left the office, closing the door behind her. *Okay, so maybe this won't be a complete disaster after all.*

Just as Sebrina pulled out her phone to text her brother the good news, she collided with something—or rather, someone. Her phone clattered to the ground, and she nearly followed suit. A strong hand reached out to help her up, and as she looked up, her eyes met with his.

Green eyes. Luscious lips. Jawline so sharp it could cut glass. Tall, muscular, and oh-so-unfortunately familiar.

*No. It can’t be.*

"YOU!" they both exclaimed in unison, glaring at each other like they were enemies in a soap opera.

Austin’s smirk was immediate. "Who let you in? Didn’t you see the sign outside? No psychos allowed."

Sebrina crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "So who let you in then?"

Austin chuckled, running a hand through his perfectly styled hair. "Still as sarcastic as ever, I see. Miss me?"

"Like I miss migraines," she shot back, rolling her eyes.

He reached out, ruffling her hair like she was some kind of pet. She slapped his hand away, glaring daggers at him.

"Sorry to crush your fragile little ego, Austin, but no." Sebrina pinched the bridge of her nose.

Austin’s eyes twinkled with mischief. "Bet you missed something else, though." He winked, clearly enjoying her irritation.

"I *wish* I could say that," Sebrina said, returning the wink. "But you know I like big things, not tiny disappointments."

Austin’s smile faltered for a split second before he huffed in frustration. Just as he was about to respond, a voice interrupted them.

"Austin, you’re here!" Kai’s voice rang out, making both Sebrina and Austin freeze.

Kai approached them, smiling in that perfectly charming way of his. "Oh, so you two already know each other?"

Sebrina and Austin exchanged a glance—more of a stare-off, really—before Austin’s lips curled into a suspicious smile.

"Oh, we go way back," Austin said, his tone dripping with amusement.

"Great!" Kai said with a bright smile. "Austin, meet Sebrina. She’ll be working with you as my new assistant."

Sebrina’s eyes widened in horror. Austin’s grin only grew.

*Well, that’s it. My hell officially starts tomorrow.*
