When we, the Homo sapiens sapiens, came into existence  200,000 years ago, there were at least 6 other human species around us. The Homo Eructs is one and they have survived for at least 2 million years. But all of our human cousins despaired around 10,000 years ago. No one is sure why maybe because they lost all resources or because of a series of genocides. Modern humans have a few per cent of Neanderthal and other human DNA, so there were definitely some mixing, but not enough to merge a species.
