- "pocket hurry up!"

danny called up the stairs, waiting with sam, josh, jake and ronnie. you were rushing around your room trying to get dressed- you had one shoe left to pull on your foot when josh burst through the door, giving you a look which meant trouble was in store.
"i'm sorry, i'm sorry! i overslept, damn wine last night" you shouted before he could speak, not giving him the chance to tell you off. your shoe finally slipped on and you sprung up from the bed, taking a deep breath before shoving josh into the door playfully.

you hurried down the stairs to see the other boys with their arms crossed, laden with bags for the trip you were about to take. some part of you had been organised the night before, so you had already packed your bags and put them in the car. you ventured into the kitchen while the boys collected themselves to say goodbye to karen and kelly- you would only be three days but you would still miss them dearly.

"oh thank god, we thought you weren't gonna have the time to say goodbye to us!" kelly said, opening his arms for a quick hug. he squeezed you, and chuckled as you said:
"well i certainly wasn't going to leave without saying goodbye to my favourite kiszkas!"
you let go of kelly and made your way over to karen, who pulled you in tight and kissed your cheek as she let go of you.

"pocket! hurry the hell up!" josh's voice boomed from the front door. you yelped a little, quickly turning to the hallway.

"bye kiszkas!" you shouted to both karen and kelly.
"goodbye sweet girl!" karen's voice sounded before the front door shut behind you.

being the smallest meant you were unceremoniously shoved to the very back of the car, where there were only two seats. you hoped josh or ronnie would sit next to you however they made their way to the front- josh driving and ronnie in the passenger side- you sighed as you watched sam and danny get into their seats, leaving only the one next to you for jake. he too sighed, as if he was annoyed to have to sit next to you. you pursed your lips at this, and huffed as he sat down.

that's it. he so clearly dislikes you, you just won't speak to him.

you looked straight ahead, as so to avoid his eyes, should they make their way over to you and unravel any anger you may have towards him. his eyes were a weakness for you- big, brown and surrounded by long, dark eyelashes. his gaze was intense and made you feel strange, almost like you were a piece of art he didn't see the point in.

josh began driving, asking someone to choose music to play for the four hour journey. sam called dibs on the music choice, to which we all groaned. all we were gonna hear was jazz. he laughed maniacally, knowing we were gonna hate him.

you looked out of the window, displeased with how the trip had begun. jake was very close- too close. his shoulder was bumping yours and you tried to keep your leg away from his, but to no avail. his entire side was pressed against yours. you could faintly smell cologne and the mint from his toothpaste.

your chest tightened with anxiety as you felt his breath on your bare shoulder. he was looking at you. you kept your eyes glued to the scenery outside- trees. road. cars. jake is still looking at you. more trees.

eventually you saw his head move forwards out the corner of your eye, and your chest loosened only slightly. your eyes however stayed stuck to the window, chin in the palm of your hand.

you felt a gentle hand on your thigh. your head whipped to look at jake, but he still looked straight ahead.

"you okay?" he murmured, eyes still not on you.
"uh-yea-i'm..yes, i'm okay." you stuttered like an idiot- all you could focus on was his hand on your leg.
"are-are you okay?" you ask, eyes solely focused on his hand. he moved his thumb to trace circles into your skin and you thought your head was going to explode.
"i'm great, y/n. excited for this trip." he was the only one to use your full name. everyone else called you pocket, a name you had earned due to your size compared to josh- even he managed to look tall next to you. the name sorta stuck, so everyone except jake called you pocket.

you took a breath, before looking ahead and trying to calm yourself down. you both sat in silence, his hand still on your leg. you stayed like this until the next stop, which took over an hour.

when you were let out of the car, you moved to josh as quickly as you could, letting him sling his arm over your shoulder. you looked over at jake to find him already looking, and your breath hitched in your throat. looking anywhere but him, you pulled your pack of cigarettes out and lit one, desperately needing it.

you broke off from the group and walked away to collect your thoughts. what the hell was going on? he'd never touched you before, never mind the intimate grip he had on your thigh- it was too much. you decided to forget it and not read too much into it, because it can't have meant anything to him. it was just because you felt so strongly for him.

you heard josh call you back over so you threw the cigarette to the floor and stamped it out before re joining the group. this was going to be a long three hours.

-surprisingly, nothing more happened.

jake didn't touch you or even look at you for the rest of the journey, which just confused you more. you crossed your arms and refused to look at him- if he was going to be hot and cold with you, you didn't want to deal with him.

the rest of the group were having fun, dancing to music and laughing. it genuinely feels good to be with your family, even if jake was confusing. seeing them all smile made your heart feel warm.

finally the car journey was over and as you jumped out of the car, you felt relief wash over you- you don't need to speak to or see jake for the rest of the trip if you didn't want to.

ronnie grabbed your arm and dragged you into the cabin, searching for the room you were going to share with her for the weekend. she excitedly squealed as she jumped onto her bed, laughing when you followed suit. you lay on your respective beds, chatting and laughing, just happy to be in each other's company. it had been too long. growing up, ronnie and you had been very close as you were the only girls in a large group of boys, even though you were a year older. you were practically sisters.

you could hear shouts coming from the kitchen, and after an hour of talking you and ronnie decided to see what was going on. josh was stood on a table with his arms held over his head, sammy was laughing loudly, danny dancing with a pineapple in his hands and jake was sat with a guitar in his arms, watching the chaos unfold.

you laughed to yourself before grabbing a beer and sitting down to watch even more antics take place.
