“Yes sweetheart” Miranda, my grandma replied.

I launched myself at her throwing my arms around her, tears coming to my eyes. I had never met my grandma or my grandpa; I had only ever seen them in pictures. You see, when my mom was not much older than me, my grandparents died in a car accident and it was really hard on my mom and she was grateful for my dad because he really did help her through it without even realising.

Pulling away I wrapped my arms around my grandpa next. To feel their arms wrap around me was strange yet comforting but it was after I had pulled away for the second time did I realise that they were dead and it had taken me all this time to figure it out.

Knowing this my already formed tears fell, “Am I dead?” I asked.

A sad smile placed itself on my grandparent’s features confirming my thoughts. I was dead. I’ll be honest with you; I never did think I would die. I had been raised by good people, strong people and not only born into a normal family but a supernatural one at that. I basically had a prolonged Vampire transformation and slowly I was adapting new Vampiric abilities at the expense of my family in some cases but the point of it was I was turning into a Vampire.

And yet I was dead.

I never thought it would actually happen.

“Why?” I asked.

Miranda sighed, “Does anyone ever really know. We are given the chance to live but our souls are only borrowed. We must return them once our time is up and believe me sweetheart if we were in charge then I would not be here right at this very moment, I would have been there with my kids. No kids should ever have to lose their parents at the age they were but they did. It happens sweetheart. It is the way of life” she explained.

More tears fell and a sob escaped my lips that I couldn’t control unfortunately. I didn’t like crying, it showed a sign of weakness but at this particular point I did not care. Grayson, my grandpa stepped forward and wiped away a fallen tear before placing my hand in his and bringing me forward slightly.

Once I was closer Miranda took a hold of my other hand so that I was stood between them.

“It’s time to pass on” Miranda said.

I nodded my head and tried to smile but I couldn’t quite do it. Instead I just walked in pace with my grandparents. The gate came closer and closer but really it was I walking towards it, yet I felt like I was floating now.

We came to a stop before the gates. I took a deep breath and Miranda reached forward to open the golden gate when an echoing voice came from all around.

“It is not her time”.

I looked at Miranda and Grayson who mirrored the exact same confusion that were upon my features also.

“But we have her right here, she’s holding our hands” Miranda said.

“I know my dear sweet child but it is not her time” the voice echoed.

I looked between Miranda and Grayson when another voice could be heard.

“Luna Salvatore, Luna, can you hear me?” someone asked.

“Who is that?” I asked.

“Luna. Luna come back to me” they said, the voice more clearer now, “Clear”

A shock and a gasp later my eyes shot open to bright lights, doctors, a heart monitor and people crying in the distance.

“She’s alive” one of the doctors announced.

I may have been alive but I was exhausted so with that my eyes shut again and I fell into a deep sleep.
