"I can't believe that there would be a day when I finally can hold Katie's hand wrapped in white gloves that match her wedding dress," I coughed, giving a nervous glance to all the eyes that are looking intensely at me as I begin.

I struggled to find the next words. A waitress hovered around us, pouring some champagne to the guests. One of her annoying aunts—whom I despise so much by the way—yet Katie insisted to put on the main table is now holding her wineglass impatiently, she obviously couldn't hate me more. That old lady. I never liked coming to Katie's house when she was around. I coughed once more, feeling more self-conscious than ever. I looked at her eyes and streams of relief waved through my body when I saw her smiled and nodded encouragingly.

"I still remember when we were in college and everyone commented on how we fight like a married couple so why don't we just go into the next step as well, but Katie always answered that marriage is not her thing. Glad she had changed her mind." I smiled, straightening the hem of my suit – partially to show people that I do deserve to be with this amazing person. "She is the most gorgeous woman you'll ever meet. I mean, look at that smile!"

Her mother chuckled and turned her head at Katie. "Aww, look at John. He's the sweetest!"

"Thank you for your compliments, John." Katie smiled at me, and for a split second I can see something else in her eyes – a regret?

"No, I mean it. Anyone would be so lucky to have you. I – "

"Cheers to the bride and groom! Katherine Thomas and Richard Charleston!" that damned old rotten aunt of hers raised her wineglass and grinned, to which Richard instantly raised his wineglass so quickly I hoped that prick will break his own arm.

"Sorry," said that look in Katie's eyes – before she turned her head to everyone and chattered joyfully, "to John, the best buddy anyone can ask for!"
