"What are you talking about?" I asked, my voice faint as I curled into myself.
I had been running from these things my whole life, and guess on some level I had convinced myself that they weren't actually real.
We stopped waking, stopping at the light pole where we had first actually met. "They can't touch you. They will try and try and try..." He cocked his head to the side, "this is all very real. And i promise it only gets worse... It seems like you've been away from your home for far to long." A glint of evil flashed in his eyes as he leaned back against the pole.
"They can't touch me?" Meaning I was safe. I ignored everything else he said; as long as I was safe I would be content for now.
"No. They can't. But there are other things that can. Some... Some even look like friends, family... Teachers." His eyes blazed with intimidation, forcing me to take a step back.
"Wha-"
He pushed off the pole and- with one large step- stood directly in front of me, his hardwood and cinnamon scent filling my senses- making me a bit woozy.
"You need not be scared of me..." He leaned down so his mouth was near my ear. I breathed him in, closing my eyes and welcoming the pull in my chest. "Not yet." He whispered darkly, then pulled back and bowed a bit, leaving me there speechless. The pull in my chest was there, trying to tug me along behind him, but I stood there and watched his body retreat into the far building.
He could see what I saw, and more importantly, he warned me about the people who could touch me. I shivered, my body tensing. How could they touch me, and why would there be touching.
"Crap." I muttered, noticing I would be late for class. I ran toward the building, and only missed class by, about, fifteen minutes.
I creeped the door open slowly, only to find everyone staring at me. "Sorry..." I said quietly. "I was talking with-"
"Mr. Paxton." The teacher said with a nod. "He told me you would be a few minutes late, take a seat.
I looked around, a bit confused as I took my seat next to Jake and Vie. Jake Whom was glaring heavily at me.
"What happened?" He whispered harshly at me. Anxiety quite evident on his face.
"We talked?" I raised my brow at him, "what's your issue?"
He let out a long sigh, "about what?" He sat facing forward, his eyes boring into me through the corner of his eyes.
I looked down at my hands, "nothing of your concern." I muttered.
Vie set a hand on my leg, leaning in toward me, "you okay, babe?" I nodded. "Jakes been freaking out this whole time. He needs to calm down."
I peered over at her, "why?"
She shrugged, "something about him not trusting Mr. Paxton."
Some even look like friends... Family... Teachers... My heart clutched as I looked around the room.
Was he warning me about himself... Or someone else? Or possibly even... Both?
I sat back heavily in my seat. What was going on in my life? Everything seemed to be unfolding pretty fast. I ran a hand through my hair, fully ignoring the class going on around me. Vie kept checking on me from the corner of her eye, but I didn't even look over at her. I kept my eyes down, fear and lack of trust bubbling in my chest.
When class ended, Vie and I went into the cafe and sat at a booth, and I dished out everything that's happened today. I rushed through it quickly, looking around me every few seconds to make sure no one was there, watching me.
