~One week later~

I turned the corner of Pine Street on my way to Lacey's house. I was walking from my house and it was around 6:00. The brisk autumn air whistled around me, and made me cling to my jacket a little bit tighter. It was dark, the sun had just set a few minutes ago and I had a block or two to walk to get to Lacey's house. The only light was of a few faint flickering street lamps that let me see about a foot away from me.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I watched as my shadow followed me, innaccurately portraying my oringinal 5'9" frame. I was nearing Lacey's house. If it wasnt so dark I would be able to see it in the distance. My footsteps made a silent echo that vibrated off the nearby woods.

Only, I had just realized my footsteps might not be the only ones walking this old road. I turned around quickly, ready to either run or fight depending on the situation. I could hear the footsteps draw closer, and pick up speed after every five steps.

They finally got slower before I could tell what the figure was. A man wearing a long black trench coat stepped out from the shadows, but I couldn't see his face because of these dim ass streetlights. I was ready to run but then I heard someone shout.

It wasnt a scream of terror, but It was someone screaming "DADDY!"

I looked behind he to see Lacey running towards me. She ran right past me and hugged the stranger in the coat. I was so lost I barely had time to speak because I had to process what was happening.

The stranger hugged Lacey before she pulled back and walked over to me. The street light got bright enough to reveal the stranger's face. He was a kind looking man, that looked about 40. His smile went to both of his eyes and warmed the cold fall night.

"Sorry, if I scared you there, I was walking home and I thought you were lost." He said and chuckled.

Lacey spoke up, "Andy, this is my dad. Dad, this is Andy."

"Is he the boy you told me about, Lace?" Lacey's dad said

"Yeah, dad" She blushed

I looked at her and then back up at her father. "Its nice to meet you, sir." I said extending my hand. Ive never really been good with meeting parents... Partially because Lacey was my first girlfriend.

He didn't shake my hand, but instead pulled me into a hug and patted my back.

"So, what brings you over, Andy? He said

"Well, sir, I wanted to, uhm, know if I could take Lacey out to dinner and maybe a movie." I said nervously.

"Sure! Lacey's been talking about you all week since the school year started! Just bring my little girl back at 11?"

"Yes, if course, sir!" I said, my eyes cheerful.

"Andy, I have to go get changed if that's okay. You can come and meet my mom if you want."

"Sure." I said and smiled. I realized she was wearing pajamas with little blue skulls. Aww.

I followed her and her dad into her house. It was light blue and was a cute little house with a garden out back.. I had never had the chance to meet her mom for some reason. I followed Lacy inside and leaned against the wall. Her father set a large leather bag down on the kitchen table I waited for Lacey.to change upstairs.

"What is in your bag, sir?" It sounded too formal coming from my mouth. He sighed as he took of his long coat.

"Oh, I work as a mortician." He said "I understand if you're grossed out by it." He let out a chuckle.

"No, I think being a mortician is something to be proud of, sir. I think its really cool!" I said honestly

"Well that's good that you think that way." He said "Lacey thinks the same thing. You two are a lot alike, I tell you."
