Chey's P.O.V
The only emotion evident on Ashton's face was a look of shock. His gaze never left me and my eyes never looked away from his face for a second. We stood there staring at each other for what felt like forever before I finally said something.
"You know what, forget I asked," I mumbled, realizing how overwhelmed he must feel.
"I'm just trying to grasp the whole you're a wolf concept," Ashton stated, looking around, as if looking for an answer to it all.
"I know but I probably should have held off on the whole turning you wolf thing," I said, feeling slightly guilty.
"Why would you want me in you pack anyways?" Ashton asked. I sighed, thoughts of the prophecy flashing in my mind.
"Well a long time ago I was given a prophecy and I didn't really understand it then, but I think I do now and well you're in a sense what I've been looking for all these years," I laughed at how it sounded like I was admitting my love for him, but in reality I just needed him to figure out this prophecy and maybe even figure out myself.
"How could it be me that you're looking for? What prophecy?" He questioned, his confusion and frustration evident on his face.
"I learnt a very long time ago to trust my instincts and right now, is one of those times where I'm going on a guys feeling so just bear with me. Or wolf with me if that makes you feel better," I smiled, hoping he would just agree.
"What's the prophecy even say?" Ashton pressed, I could feel the waves of emotion flowing off him.
"Well when I was 8 years old I got this prophecy. It was the day before my parents died and 8 years before my Alpha ceremony and this ghost wolf came to me the night I had snuck out. He told me that "One day fire, air, earth and water will meet wolf, and maybe, just maybe it will be enough". I don't know what it will be enough for, but I know I need you for this. I know that more than anything," I explained, almost crying at the mention of my parents.
"Why me? Why not someone else? I just don't get it," Ashton mumbled.
"Well cause life has a funny way of showing us that we matter," I smiled.
"Well it frustrating that's for sure," Ashton sighed.
"Yeah, it's always gonna be like that. It gives us a reason to keep pushing forwards," I told him, believing my every word.
"I just don't understand this. It's also one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. I thought finding out I could control the elements of earth was scary but this is all so much," Ashton said so quietly I'm pretty sure he was talking to himself.
"Well if it makes things any easier for you, I don't mind turning Mikey, Luke and Calum," I suggested.
"You would do that for me?" He replied, hope putting some fire back into his eyes.
"Of course I would! You're doing this for me and I might as well return the favour," I chuckled, placing my hand on his shoulder.
"But that means I'm going to have to tell them about the earth thing," He grumbled, losing his spark, too quickly for my liking.
"Think of it this way, we're both telling them our biggest secrets. I'm telling them about the fact that I'm a werewolf and you're telling them that you're capable of controlling the Element of Earth. Either way, if they're actually your friends, they will have no problem supporting you," I reasoned, hoping my logic would be comforting in its weird way.
Ashton nodded, and pulled me in for a hug. I think it was something we both needed because without realizing it, I found myself putting my arms around his neck and breathing in his sweet smell. The hug was tight and comfortable, but at the same time I swear it was filled with desire.
We stayed like that for a while. Neither of us said a word, we just enjoyed the warmth. As we hugged a breeze blew causing me to shiver. But I wasn't shivering because it was cold. A familiar smell came with the gentle air. A smell that I never knew I would breath in again.
"Chey what's wrong?" Ashton mumbled in my ear, I guess he had felt my body tense.
"Ashton, do NOT look around. We need to go and we need to go now, but I need to act like nothing odd is happening. Just play it out like you're tired and need to leave," I whispered urgently in his ear. Ashton pulled away just slightly and looked me in the eye. In the spur of the moment, my wolf took over and I found myself pressing my lips against Ashton's. Despite what was lurking in the shadows, I knew that kissing Ashton was right. At least it was in the moment. Ashton pulled away first.
"We should probably get going," Ashton said, still whispering.
I nodded in agreement before we headed to my truck. I took another deep breath to reassure myself that I hadn't been imagining the smell. It was still there but I knew they would never approach me unless I took notice of them and that was the last thing I was going to do.
I unlocked the truck and jumped in while Ashton slid into the passengers seat with ease. Once we were both safely in, I began the drive home in silence. Whenever I looked over I found Ashton looking out the window, his gaze glued to the treeline, looking for whatever I was afraid of.
Before I knew it, I was pulling up in my driveway. I put the truck in park and we both got out. I locked up.
"When are we gonna tell them?" Ashton called from the end of the driveway.
"Tomorrow. It's better sooner than later," I answered as I walked up my front steps. I paused before heading inside, knowing I was about to face my very anxious and worried pack members.
