Kalos: Vaniville Town a week later.
In the peaceful town of Vaniville, the day begins with people going about their daily chores. Serena sits in her room, staring at the Princesskey she won last weekend.
"Does this even matter?" Serena questions herself.
"Nah, I'll do it for him. Ash would want me to give it my all and reach the top. I won't give up until I make it!" Serena reassures herself. This pep talk has become her daily ritual, to keep herself focused and motivated.
After a while, her mom calls her from downstairs.
"What's up, Mom?" Serena responds as she heads down.
"You've got mail, dear," her mom says, handing her an envelope.
"Mail? For me?" Serena looks surprised as she takes the letter.
"No name, no address. Who sent this?" Serena wonders as she inspects the envelope.
She tears it open and finds a note with the messiest handwriting she's ever seen.
"Meet me at Lumiose Gym," Serena reads the note, struggling a bit with the handwriting.
"Who sent it?" her mom asks.
"No idea, Mom. It just says to meet at Lumiose Gym," Serena replies.
"No name or address? That's weird," her mom agrees.
"Yeah, pretty strange," Serena says, tossing the note away.
"I've got other plans for today," Serena says as she sits down for breakfast.
"What's on the agenda?" her mom asks curiously.
"I'll practice my performance, and then I'll meet up with Shauna in Santalune City. Can I go with her?" Serena asks her mom for permission.
"Sure, I'll take you there," her mom agrees.
"Awesome!" Serena exclaims with excitement.
Lumiose City - A few hours later at the Lumiose Gym.
A knock at the gym's doors jolts Clemont into action as he rushes to his position, ready to face the challenger. He announces his presence to the incoming challenger with enthusiasm.
Taking his position as the gym leader, Clemont awaits the challenger's entrance into the battlefield.
The hydraulic doors open effortlessly, revealing a thin teenage boy wearing a white shirt and a red tie. With green hair and red eyes, he exudes a handsome aura. A mysterious smile graces his face as he enters the gym.
"Welcome to the Lumiose Gym," Clemont warmly greets him.
"What is your name?" Clemont inquires when he notices the boy isn't saying anything, just looking around the gym.
"Ryan," the boy replies.
"I suppose you're here for a gym battle," Clemont asks.
"Yes," Ryan answers.
"Well, then let's get started!" Clemont exclaims as Clembot takes on the role of the referee for the match.
"This will be an official 2 vs 2 battle for the Voltage badge. The challenger can switch Pokémon anytime during the match, but the Gym can't," Clembot explains the rules as Ryan takes out a Pokéball from his pocket.
'Is this really Clemont? I hope he's improved since we last battled. Let's find out,' Ryan thinks to himself as he enlarges his Pokéball.
"Be gentle, buddy," Ryan murmurs as Clembot signals for them to release their Pokémon.
