AN: So this is an idea I've always been wondering how to write. I think I figured out how to give it a Christmas twist.
(Story Summary: The Kotlc gang was planning a human themed Christmas party. However, Ro was a little too generous with her bacteria buddies, and Keefe needed medical treatment from Elwin. Since Foxfire is closed, Elwin is working at home. Over at Elwin's house, Keefe is feeling isolated from his friends. Luckily for him, Sophie comes over to keep him company.)
"So, tell me again what exactly this is again," Tam requested, as he looked at a very sparkly scrapbook.
Sophie just kept staring at her scrapbook that she had cataloging the first twelve years of her life in the Forbidden Cities. She had it turned to a Christmas page documenting one of Sophie's favorite Christmas's back when she was four years old. Back when she could still consider herself relatively normal. She hadn't started Kindergarten yet, and she most certainly wasn't reading minds. Heck, even her little sister wasn't annoying yet seeing as she was only about a year old.
Sophie was still reminiscing until she was shaken out of her trance, literally. The first thing she saw when she came back to the present was Dex shaking her shoulders. "Everglen to Sophie! Come in Sophie!"
"Sophie here," Sophie replied, and that is when the shaking stopped. Well, she still shook her head.
Since Dex's mother had some human movies, Occasionally her and Dex would watch one of them. The last one they had watched was about the moon landing of 1969, and Dex had been attached to the code transmissions between Control and the astronauts. But he had changed the terminology a bit so it was a little more applicable to the Lost Cities. Sophie has learned to just go along with it. Maybe the scrapbook would distract him.
Sophie and her friends had met over at Havenfield to spend an afternoon together, and somehow they had ended up talking about Christmas. Sophie had quickly ran up to her bedroom to get her scrapbook that had some Christmas examples. And everyone had become engrossed with it ever since. Her elven friends usually thought that human holidays were strange, but they seemed to love this one for some reason. Probably because of the gifts and the goodwill that comes with Christmas.
Remembering that Tam had asked a question, Sophie started to explain. "This is an example of what Christmas is. Well, one of my experiences anyway."
"I love the decorations on the tree. What to they mean?" Linh asked next, as she pointed a finger to a picture of a Christmas tree at night with the lights glowing up, illuminating other ornaments on the tree.
Sophie paused to look at the tree. It really was beautiful, and she loved the memories that came with it. But now wasn't the time to get lost in the past, unless she wanted Dex to start teasing her again. "Humans like to decorate the tree because.... I'm not really sure. It could be a way to bond with family, a way to show holiday spirit, or something else. All I really know is that the star on top represents the story of Christ's birth. I'll have to tell you it sometime."
"Do you really give gifts just like Midterms?" Biana inquired, her eyes growing big with curiosity.
Sophie nodded. "It's probably one of the biggest things of Christmas. But the gifts mean so much more than just the gift itself! It's the thought that counts, as humans say. Usually people give gifts to friends and family, but many also believe that Santa delivers gifts as well, especially to kids."
Sophie heard a snort behind her, and she turned her head to see Fitz folding his arms in front of him as he leaned against a wall. "Do humans really believe that some old fat dude in a red suit will deliver presents by flying reindeer to the entire world in just one day? That's ridiculous!"
