A/N: Saebyeok and Gihun will be playing together for this round. And while writing this, I honestly thought of writing another game instead of squid game but then quickly remembered why the series is called squid game in the first place lol.
Chapter Twelve | Desperate
"Welcome to the final game."
Saebyeok and Gihun stood with each other glaring at Sangwoo, while he just all stood himself, facing each other with three guards at their side. Saebyeok was still holding a lot of grudge against Sangwoo, with herself. How could she have left Seunghee all by herself unguarded with Sangwoo around her? She was still in denial that the girl was gone, and has been grieving her death.
"Before we begin the final game, we will flip a coin to decide who will take defence or offence." The person behind the mask opened his hands. "Choose a shape. Triangle or square?"
"Triangle," Gihun answered first, beating Sangwoo and Saebyeok. Sangwoo stayed silent, having no choice but the square shape.
The guard threw the coin in the air, as it whooshes and clanged before perfectly landing on the guard's hands.
"It's triangle." He officially announced. "Choose between offence or defence."
"Offence." Saebyeok quickly answered, clenching her fist.
"Player 456 and Player 067 will be playing in offence and Player 218 will be playing defence." The guard turned his back and opened the doors. They all walked out of the room to the outdoors.
"For the final game, you will be playing squid game." He announced, walking in front of the other three. "Let me explain the rules of the Squid Game. One, the attackers must enter the squid shape court, run past the defence, and then tap the inside area of the squid's head with their foot to secure the win. Two, the defender must block the attackers advances and force them outside of the court's bound to win. Three, if a situation arises, in which the players are unable to continue the game, the last standing is the winner." The head guard turned his back, causing the three players to face each other.
"The players are unable to continue...can you explain that?" Gihun questioned with gaze still hard on Sangwoo.
"That would be referring to a player's death. And now with that, let the games begin." The head manager declared. Saebyeok and Gihun walked to their positions, and Sangwoo walked to his.
Gihun sighed deeply and bent down to the ground to tie his shoelaces, but grabbed a handful of sand that was in the ground and glared at Sangwoo. A loud bang was heard, causing Saebyeok and Gihun to hop in one foot on each side of the court, as Sangwoo had a difficult time deciding to take which one first.
He pulled his knife pointing it at both of them. The court wasn't that far away from each other so he could be easily run from one player to another.
"We always played this game as kids." Gihun started, and Sangwoo pointed the knife at him. "Do you remember what we use to call it?"
"Shut up. Who cares about that right now?" Sangwoo tried to stab him, but Gihun acted quickly and threw the handful of sand at him causing him to stumble back. With that, he and Saebyeok walked towards the Squid's neck.
"Inspector royal," Gihun spoke once again. "That's what we use to call it as kids."
Saebyeok carefully listened to their little childhood stories and felt water dripping down her head. She raised a brow and looked to see the sky getting dark and grey, thunder was rumbling, and the rain started to pour down.
