Hi my lovely readers!
Gosh it feels like a really long time since I write an authors note, but I am so so thrilled to be writing this one today.
Writing this story was a journey and a half. It was at times a joy, and other times, extremely difficult to write a character that is complicated and yet is someone as readers, we still want to learn more about.
Saying that, I would not be here, excited to publish the first chapter of 'An Adventure in Catnapping' if I didn't feel like I had achieved that, in this book. And I am grateful to Wattpad and the Writer's Creators Programme for allowing me to follow this dream. The actual concept of this story is simple, and it's my first attempt of writing a comedy of sorts, so please do share your thoughts!
To all the readers that have been following my journey from the very beginning, I am honestly so grateful, this story is for you!Once more this story explores a multitude of themes including what it may feel like to be a child of divorce, and to have characteristics of a person with OCD and ASD traits. I have deliberately chosen not to use those labels in this story, and utilised the word 'quirks' instead, because I wanted to write a character who falls within the label of 'awkward' and 'difficult', without giving them the reason of neuro-divergence. The main reason for this is because just because someone is different, does not mean that there is a need to diagnose...as a society we need to evolve and shape ourselves to support everyone, regardless of their needs.
It is not the person at fault but rather the environment that we can manipulate to make things easier, whether that is to reduce noise, aid their routines as well as we can, and understand that we humans, whether we're neurotypical or not, will always experience things differently, because we have our minds, emotions and hearts.
What we can do however, is change the narrative and that may mean we start with ourselves and how we look out towards the world.Sorry! Author's notes always give me the opportunity to waffle!
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the story and do share your thoughts!
Aamenah x
