23. Into the Lion's Den

The compass was showing the direction, as we headed out of our kingdom border, our talks turned into silence, and our mind was not stable and thinking about the enemy's weak point.

"Hey, we need to get cover."

"Huh?"

"You being a human being and I am powerless, so we can't disguise our looks. Hence, I will go now and find some clothes, to mask our appearance. You stay here." He gave me an order.

I was hiding in an abandoned building.

After some time, Lazarus returned with some clothes.

We changed. We were looking like a mid-aged couple.

We cover our faces with black cloth.

"If anyone asked you anything, don't respond. Act like you are mute."

I nodded. Considering his seriousness for this situation, I was nervous.

He gave me a scent. "This is to protect your human smell. These guards are pretty good with their senses."

"Hmm." My heart was beating so fast, but I don't want to discourage Lazarus for me.

'Hey, it will be all right.' I said in my mind, putting my hand over my heart.

We entered the kingdom with a disguise. Heart beating fast as the guards were asking various questions to Lazarus and me. I responded with my actions. They checked our bag too.

One of the guards opened the door, we put our feet on the other side. The guards do not recognize us.

"Now we need to use our all senses and be alert all the time." He was giving me instructions from time to time.

As we entered through a big gate of the kingdom, it was way different than Lazarus kingdom.

The other vampires were treated as slaves, some guard was beating a vampire and others were just watching, without doing anything. I felt bad for him.

Laz dragged me to the other side.

"Don't get guard's attention" he whispered meticulously.

There were guards on each corner and nook. It was terrifying.

Listen, we need to find the palace n try to rescue Sabastian from there, then it would be easier.

I just nodded.

But my sixth sense was telling me that someone was following us. I looked back but no one was in sight.

Maybe I am just insecure here and hence I imagine the things. Anyways. We were keeping the low-key n heading towards the palace.

We hide well in the dense bushes which were in the north mountain of the palace. The view of the palace from there was perfect.

"Oh my, PALACE. THE ROYAL PALACE. Oh! It was too good for my sight. all the lights are blinding my eyesight."

But Lazarus didn't respond. He was counting the guards.

These guys are real royale. The entrance gate was so humongous, that a 6 ft human would seem like an ant. Fully protected with scary-looking guards. I thought.

"Ahh, how are we going to slink in the palace?" We were thinking.

"Soon the night will consume the light, maybe we would have a chance to sneak in then," Lazarus replied.
