Your hands are shaking.

Something that usually didn't happen to you. They didn't shake when things went wrong, they didn't shake when you had to face death or uncertainty. They never shook.

But suddenly, when Altaïr didn't return from his mission, they started to shake.

And you want to believe that is not from panic.

"You wanted to talk to me, little one?", Bayek asks, and you don't want to face him. Instead, you intertwine your fingers and stay professional as always.

"Yes. I did".

"Take a seat", you do. "What will you like to talk about?"

"It's about Altaïr", you answer way too fast, like you were waiting years to say it. Bayek stays emotionless like always. "He didn't return from his mission. I thought that it will be my responsibility as his partner to report it to you".

Bayek gets comfortable in his seat, the same way Aya hates.

"Not even an encrypted message?"

"Not even an encrypted message", at this rate you're looking at your hands, trying very hard for them to stop shaking. Is useless.

Bayek stays in silence for a few minutes, until it was too much for you and you suddenly stand up.

"Aren't you going to do something?", Bayek looks at you surprised for a moment or two.

"What do you want me to do?"

"I don't know! Send someone to look for him? He could be anywhere right now, probably hurt", there is a hint of desperation in your tone. There is a hint of something more than just worry for your partner.

Bayek stares at you like he is reading you; like he is looking deep at your soul. When you realize that you had let out too many emotions, you look at the floor and sit down again.

You're such a fool.

"Is not the first time that Altaïr doesn't return after a mission", Bayek says, like is a fact. Well, it was a fact. Altaïr sometimes didn't return right away from missions, even after completing easy ones. He sometimes stayed behind to make sure that everything was okay.

But you had a feeling.

A feeling that something was wrong.

"I know".

"Then you shouldn't be worried".

"Is not that".

He sits straight in his chair now and puts his hands on his desk.

"Then what is it, little one?"

You don't answer.

You stay in silence for an eternity.
