Desmond Miles
"What are you waiting for? Go!", he says, doing a hand movement that makes you feel like a cat who is being shooed away.
You don't move, though. You stay put, frozen even, looking at him with no expression in your eyes.
"I told you to go", he says again.
"I know what you said. I just don't want to. There must be another way", Desmond sighs, like he is breaking. He has been breaking all this time, breaking like an abused vase. He is gonna break any time soon, you're just delaying the process.
"There is no time. I must do this. To save us".
"No", you take a step forward. "There is always another way, Desmond. You can't die, not now, not like this".
"Believe me, if there was another way, I would have taken it. But there is no time. I have to do this, and you have to save yourself, everything we stand for".
"Fuck ideologies, fuck philosophies, Desmond. You are what I stand for, and you want to sacrifice your life for a fucked-up world that doesn't deserve you. It's not fair".
"Nothing is fair. If being in the Animus have shown me something is exactly that", he makes a pause and looks at you in the eyes. "Someone has to do it. There is no time for other answers".
"Let me do it, then".
"No".
"Why not? Your life is precious, Desmond. More than mine. You still have things to fix with your father. You can't die like this".
"That doesn't matter".
"It does! I can't believe your life ends like this. Just because of this fucking bitch!", you point with your finger to where Juno would have been. "She has been using you, just like every ancestor in your bloodline. This is what she wants, and you shouldn't give it to her".
He suddenly steps to you and grabs you by the arms. It's not menacing, it's softly, like if he is holding something he loves; something he cares for.
"It doesn't matter if Juno is a bitch or not. You need to get out of here. Please, don't make this even harder than it already is", his voice is softer, his voice reminds you of the boy you grew up with.
"I don't want you to die, not like this", he caresses your cheek.
"It's the only way".
"No".
"Go. I'm not gonna repeat myself", he lets you go and steps back.
"Desmond..."
"GO!", one last look, before he turns around before he is facing death again.
You take a step back, then another, and then another, with your eyes still on Desmond's back. Until you stop because a perverse idea lands inside your mind.
A sacrifice must be made, Juno didn't say who was going to be lamb.
Desmond looks at the globe, he extends his hand, but right before he can touch it, he hears someone yelling behind him and when he turns to look over his shoulder, he finds you approaching at top speed.
His mouth moves, his body does too, but you have always been faster and sneaky than him, that's why you were always his father's favorite Assassin.
He grabs you by the arms, tries to ask you what the fuck you're doing, but his words never go out. Instead, you crash your body with his, he stays put and, while the world is nearly ending outside, you look at him in the eyes.
"Safety and peace, Desmond", you whisper, and then Desmond blinks, and then your body convulses in his arms.
He screams, but it's too late.
It's too late, it's too late. He is always late.
Juno calls them both foolish and Desmond is too busy with your cold body in his arms to mind her.
Juno is out, the world safe, and you're no more.
Just a memory.
Just a cold body.
A sacrifice.
A lamb.
