chapt seven, blood shall be shed twice.

THE first bloodshed should've been her first hint at how this was going to end. With Kate. With herself. It reminded her of that quote; wanting to be liked is fatal. But is it?

"Look at you, already walking it off," Kate complimented, lips curved with a hand on the wheel as she closed the car. She is. Never better aside from its ghostly imprint. All her wounds leave that mark, invisible to others but clear as day in her mirror reflection every morning. "Good job today, Emily."

"Thanks, Kate," that made it worth all. Her stamp of approval. She bids goodbye, grin faltering at him disappearing inside it. Is it because Kate hardly acknowledge him? She can sense he doesn't like her. It's not hidden well. She has a preference, not her fault. Warm air held her tight as she closed the door, desperate to be stuffed inside her covers for the rest of the evening.

"Wallace. Emily!" Dad called, from the kitchen. Wallace peeked his head out the door, eyes widening for a split second indicating this wasn't good. Tonight was parent-teacher night. She shuffled closer. Normally, he tells them what was said separately and it's the worst moment of their lives because it's awkward and boring.

"Were were you two today?" He asked, arms crossed over his pastel blue sweater. Mom stood besides him, lips sewn and Phineas behind them on the low white couch, staring. Why was he here? "You weren't. Neither of you to hang out with Kate, and that's not even the worst part. You knew the beta was in the school and didn't tell anyone." So, this is all her fault. No mention of Wallace at all.

"Dad ━━━━ " Emily spluttered out, tongue moving before her brain. What teenager attends those meeting? When she was eight, she did. What can she even say? She isn't in the wrong here. There are bigger fishes to fry than him or her lying.

"You knew we've been looking for him. He is our lead to the Alpha and you lied to us everyday, what's wrong with you?" He fumed, brows creased and finger pointed at her, separated by the white marble rectangle counter. Still, it felt like he was poking her.

"Because if I told you, you'd tell me to kill him. We can't kill Scott, dad. I know him," The excuse is pathetic but it's true. The idea of ripping a life is harsh but somebody she knew, walked past and said hi! to every once in awhile, shared pens and homework. It more than she desired to handle.

"Emily," Mom injected, scratching her forehead for a second. Emily's hands clenched behind her back, looking at her brothers who had their eyes on the ground letting her absorb all of the fault. So fucking typical. "If you told us sooner, we could've came up with a better situation for him.

"I have a better situation. I have been dealing with it," She insisted, heavy on the have and leaned her palm on the cold, smooth table. She unconsciously glanced to her twin.
