nini heard the bell ring and looked up to see ricky come in. they awkwardly glanced at each other before ricky made his way to the back to grab an apron. nini usually has one waiting for him but they weren't talking right now.
the girl started to feel nervous, dragging the eight hour shift she was about to start with ricky. the boy tied the apron around his waist and sighed. he was not looking forward to this shift.
when ricky walked in, nini didn't say a word. they worked in silence and often away from each other. it was silent until zach came in, yelling as always.
"morning morning!!" zach chirped with a huge smile on his face. the two kids only waved at him before continuing their work. zach stopped in his tracks and raised an eyebrow, "what's up with you two?"
nini glanced at ricky. "we're just tired from last night," the boy answered. zach noticed the tension but decided to ignore the problem.
"well, let's wake up people!"

"nini, table two has been waiting for their drinks for like 20 minutes already," zach complained as he looked at her with annoyance. nini glared at ricky.
"you said that you were gonna give them their drinks," nini stated.
"what? no, i said i would do table six," ricky argued as he frantically grabbed plates of food.
"no, you didn't-"
"doesn't matter who said what! just go grab their drinks," zach yelled. nini let out a frustrated sigh but did as she was told.
meanwhile ricky made his way to table seven. he started to put down their food as fast as he can. before he could set down the last plate, a customer spoke up.
"excuse me.. does this have meat in it?" the girl asked. ricky started to panic but tried his best to keep his cool.
"uh yeah? you ordered the chorizo skillet, right?" ricky asked in a small voice.
"no, i ordered the vegetarian option."
"and i ordered the country fried steak," another customer spoke up, "not pancakes."
"uh..." ricky panicked as he took out his note pad, flipping through the pages, "this is table four right?"
"no, we're table seven."
"uh.. shit," ricky muttered under his breath before shoving his notepad in his apron. he looked over at the kitchen to see nini stacking up plates in her hands.
"sorry for the confusion, i'll be right back," ricky rushed before running towards nini. the girl looked up at him with confusion, "those are for table seven."
"what? you wrote table four."
"i know i messed up," ricky quickly said as he grabbed the food from her. nini looked over at table seven to see food already in front of them.
"then what's that?"
"i got them mixed up!" ricky yelled in annoyance, "just switch them."
"we can't just give table four the food from table seven! the cooks have to remake them now because of health code violations-"
"OKAY! I KNOW," ricky yelled. nini got taken aback from ricky's outburst as customers looked up from their food at the two. zach swiftly made his way towards them with annoyance and anxiety written all over his face.
"what's the problem," zach gritted through his teeth.
"ricky got table four and seven mixed up," nini answered as ricky rolled his eyes.
