Monday morning I made my way into the office. Sam greeted me with a smile and informed me that Noah was going to be out of the office all week. Not that I didn't already know that. But I asked questions to ensure that it sounded like it was the first time I was hearing of this.

We continued working side by side on the cases we started last week and the day flew by. On my lunch break, I called my local clinic and made an appointment for after work to go and get on birth control. If I was going to be having this much sex with Noah, there was no way that I was going to rely on condoms alone.

The day finally ended and I made my way to the clinic. The doctor was very kind as she took a pregnancy test to ensure that I wasn't already expecting. Luckily, it came up negative and I decided on a 3 year IUD.

After my appointment, I decided to head home and indulge myself in pizza and a movie marathon before passing out on the couch.

Before I even realized it, I was heading home from work Wednesday evening. As I pulled up to my house, I noticed my mother's car parked in the drive. What the hell was she doing here?

I parked next to her and made my way into my house where I found her sitting in my living room. Her eyes shot to mine with a wicked stare that made my stomach churn.

"And where have you been? I've been waiting here for hours," She snarled at me.

"I was at work. And how did you even get in here?" I couldn't hide the distaste in my voice.

"Oh please, do you really think I don't know where you keep your spare key?" she snapped at me, matching my tone.

"What are you doing here, mother?" She rolls her eyes at me.

"Is that any way to speak to your mother? And besides, I told you that I was coming to visit."

I was baffled by her words. "When?"

"Last month. I told you I wanted to come and see you." I let out a sigh of frustration.

"Yeah, but you never said when you were coming." My voice dripped with irritation. I hated how she expected me to drop everything and cater to her every whim.

"Well, you never told me you got a job so I guess I just assumed you'd be free whenever."

Fuck this woman drives me up a damn wall.

"Well, I'm free now. I guess. And you're already here so no point in arguing about it anymore."

I sigh in defeat. At least Noah is in court all week. I do not want him to meet my mother. We have not been dating nearly long enough for me to throw him into the fire like that. Not to mention the fact that my mother thinks I haven't dated anyone since high school. And the fact that she still thinks that I'm a virgin. Oh, how wrong she is about that. Especially since meeting Noah.

"So, how is my other child?" I roll my eyes at her snarky comment.

"If you're referring to Mikayla, I wouldn't have any idea. She and I don't speak anymore."

"You know that I was referring to you, dear. I know how your sister is because she actually knows how to pick up the phone and call me every once in a while." I roll my eyes.

"That's funny. Because I assumed your other child would be the one that isn't in the room with you." I snap back, my blood boiling in my veins. My mother has a way of getting on my last fucking nerve.

"Well, I just find it funny that your sister lives hundreds of miles away and she talks to me all the time, while you live less than an hour and the only time I hear from you is if I drive here myself. So, yeah, all things considered, you're the other child. The one I barely know exists."
