"Okay how about that one?" She said biting her lip pointing up at yet another ball of cotton candy in the sky.

Dawn and I are laying on the hood of my car parked in a meadow. If you ask me this is one shitty excuse of a meadow. The leaves were changing from their usual leafy green to shades of yellow red and orange. The grass was a dull light brown color that made a crunching sound when you stepped on it.

"It looks like..."

"Like..." She pressed on widening her large doe-like orbs. Propping herself up on her elbows. Watching me waiting for my reply.

"Cotton Candy." I said shutting my eyes smirking.

"What," She screeched. "You can't be serious." A dark shadow cast itself over me. Causing me to open my eyes. Her eyes searched my face gingerly before making contact with mine. Being this close to her I can see everything. Every flaw that makes her more humane, makes her perfect. Her long eyelashes fluttered across her cheeks. Her eyes had an unreadable look in them. Her lips slowly parted as a small gasp escaped them. Her face looked so innocent. She moved back quickly jumping off the hood of the car.

Well that was new. I wonder why she was looking at me like that. I watched as she twirled around staring up at the sky. A breath taking smile lit up her face. It was like she was experiencing nature for the first time. Everything she does or sees she gets extremely fascinated by it. She ran towards me her curly black hair flowing in the wind the sun beamed down on her as she positioned herself beside me again.

"You know my birthday is coming up?" She said almost unsure breathlessly. I looked at her under my eyelashes. Feeling the wind pick up blowing her hair behind her majestically. That's one thing I do enjoy about this girl is her hair it's different. Anyway what will I get her; I think I'll get her a card. Just as soon as she started to walk away again I saw something strange in the distance. I caught her elbow in my grasp lightly.

A dog was a few feet ahead of us his ears perked. His white fur coat looked more like a light brown but it's probably just dirt. Dawn looked from my eyes to the dog her body physically relaxing. I watched as he lowered his head to the ground. His hind legs were still in the air while his tail frantically swished around like a fan. He started prancing towards is tumbling over his legs. Barking delightfully once he reached us.

"Awww can we keep him?!" She asked excitedly stroking the dogs fur.

"He might have an owner. Are you out of your mind we can't just take him." I said looking down at the dog.

"I guess you're right." She grumbled getting into the car slamming the door. Great now she's upset. I crouched down running my hands over the dogs fur feeling his ribs. I guess he really doesn't have an owner unless he's being mistreated.

"I hope you can hold off for a couple of days." I said looking at the dog. Might as well give him a name too. How about Bruno, yea it's decided Bruno.

I got in the car turning towards Dawn. Her arms were crossed and her mouth set into a frown.

"When exactly is your birthday?" I asked flexing my fingers around the steering wheel. While I drove us back onto the road.

"Tomorrow."

Oh wow what a great time to tell me. I feel like I need to get her a gift and I know exactly what I'm going to get her. Even though our conversations are slow and sometimes not there at all but I think this girl deserves a birthday gift.
