Araile backed up more, and her heel slipped little by little off the edge as the ninjas stalked closer. She regained her balance as one ninja threw a kunai, while the other threw some shurikan. As the weapons flew towards her, Araile prepared to dodge and her muscles tensed.

As the weapons flew towards her, Araile suddenly had a flashback of herself as a six year old.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the small kitchen table, Kakashi was showing his young charge the different types of weapons that he used. He had just told her about how she had different chakra within her and why her ears were different. Araile had taken it surprisingly well, much to Kakashi's surprise. So she was a demon. Maybe being a demon meant she could get superpowers like flying.
"What's this?" Araile asked as she picked up some sort of knife by the handle; her eyes alight with curiosity.
"Kunai knife," Kakashi answered as he took it from her.
"Be careful, Araile. It's sharp," Kakashi warned, putting his hand over Araile's small hands.
She looked up at him with her big golden eyes, causing Kakashi to smile at her and ruffled her hair. A knock suddenly sounded at the door, and Kakashi walked over to the front door.
"Oh, Iruka-san. What do you want?" Kakashi asked as he opened the door.
Araile walked to Kakashi and clutched his leg while staring at the stranger.
"The Hokage wants to see you right now," Iruka said as he scratched the back of his head.
Kakashi nodded his thanks. When Iruka left, Kakashi closed the door bent down to Araile's height.
"Araile, I have to go," he said, and her face dropped.
"But I'll be back very soon," Kakashi added when he saw her sad face.
Araile nodded sadly, and Kakashi smiled then reached out and ruffled her hair once again. Kakashi got up and walked out the door, walked down the stairs and started down the street. Araile stared at his back as he went around the corner, and then let out a small sigh.
~An hour later~
"Bored, bored, bored," Araile sang to herself as she lay on her bed in her small bedroom.
She rested her head against her pillow and closed her eyes, listening to the sound of the birds chirping outside her window.
A minute later, her mind began buzzing with ideas. Araile padded down the hallway and into the kitchen. A shiny object caught her attention, and she stared at the object, trying to remember what it was. Araile walked over to the object and picked it up, turning it over in her hand.
"Hey! It's the knife thingy Kakashi was showing me earlier!" Araile said excitedly as her mind clicked with what it was.
She turned the kunai blade around as it glittered in the sunlight when suddenly the edge of the blade moved, causing it to cut deeply into her hand. Araile cried out in pain as blood dripped from her hand to the floor. She dropped the bloodstained weapon, and it landed with a dull 'thunk'.
"Oh no! Kakashi told me to be careful, and now look what I did!" the young girl whimpered as she held back tears, her hand throbbing in pain.
"I gotta get rid of this," she muttered as she looked around desperately.
Thankfully, she found a small corner of the kitchen that was dusty. She carefully grabbed the knife by the handle and dropped it in the corner, dragging a blanket and pillow over the knife. She grabbed a small towel and scrubbed as much of the blood from her hand as she could before burying it under the blanket.
Her head snapped up as she heard someone coming up the stairs and turning the knob of the front door. Araile raced to her bedroom and flung herself onto her bed as the sound of the front door opened. Araile quickly curled her body around her pillow and held her breath as the door to her bedroom opened.
"I'm back," a familiar voice spoke.
Araile sat up and pretended to yawn, making it as if she was asleep and opened her gold eyes wide.
"Yay! Kakashi's back! Kakashi's back!" Araile shouted loudly and jumped over to him.
Kakashi smiled as his young charge clung on him like a small monkey. After a couple moments, he allowed her to slide down, then walked to another side of the house with Araile following closely behind. Kakashi suddenly turned to his young charge with a visible eyebrow raised. He placed a hand on Araile's shoulder, and her back stiffened in slight fear.
'Uh oh! Kakashi is going to see my hand!' she thought to herself.
She squirmed and tried to get out from under his hand, but Kakashi had a firm grip on her. Kakashi then took a firm hold of Araile's hand and turned it over, exposing the dried blood. The six year old had forgotten to clean her hand when she had focused on hiding the kunai.
"What happened here?" he said.
"Nothing," she muttered, and flinched as Kakashi gently touched around her wound.
Kakashi steered his charge over to his bedroom and placed her on his bed, while he rummaged around for something.
"Ah, here it is," Kakashi exclaimed as he walked over to Araile, sitting on the bed beside her.
Kakashi then took her hand in his and began applying some sort of white cream onto her hand. Her eyes widened, and a small cry escaped her lips as her hand started to burn and tingle. Araile tried to pull back her hand from Kakashi, but he held the small hand in his with a steady grip, not letting go. Tears ran down Araile's face as the pain finally subdued, leaving her shaking like a leaf.
"I know it hurts, but it will help your hand," Kakashi said as he wrapped some bandages around her hand.
Araile nodded and shakily wiped away her tears, a small smile over her face.
"There now, all better," Kakashi exclaimed as he stood up.
She inspected her hand and smiled; the pain was gone and all that was left was a tingling sensation.
"Kakashi?"
"Hmm?"
"If I'm a demon, can I have superpowers?"
A sigh sounded throughout the apartment.
