ATHENA POV
Monday
November is finally here. It has been days since I left Shawn.
...
"Do you really hate him?" Mom asks me. We are in the dinning room eating lunch. I put my fork down and look at her. Why the sudden question?
"Who?" I ask.
She drinks a bit of iced tea. "Shawn, are you going to leave him for good?"
"Mom, I thought we talked about this. I was messed up in my head thinking I was in love with a man who bought me. I don't know how to feel towards him anymore after his lies."
Mom eats a spoonful of chicken soup and chews it while looking at me. She is examining me to see if I'm lying. She finishes and sighs. "I agree but you can't keep him from his child."
"I know mom."
"Mr. House will be coming today," Mom says.
I nod. He is my divorce lawyer.SHAWN POV
"Your hand will feel like this from now on. Thankfully you can move it a bit more now," Francisco says. He is driving back home. We went to my doctor to see about my condition. Even if I'm taking the best treatment out there, I'm still going to become handicap. My hand feels better but I can barely grasp things.
"Monsieur, there's a unknown car parked in front," Francisco says. I look out the window and it is father. He got a Lexus now.
Francisco parks and I step out.
The door car opens and father comes out. "Bonjour," he says.
He arrived yesterday. He knows everything.
"Afternoon monsieur," Francisco greets him. He opens the house door and we all go in.
"How are you dad?" I ask as I sit next to him.
"You really are questioning me that?" He says annoyingly. "I'm still upset with your behavior. I didn't raise you this way."
"Father, I know I was stupid," I say.
"Stupide ne décrit pas," he grunts. "What now? Has Athena talked to you?"
I shake my head no. "Her lawyer did though."
"Great, a divorce," Father says with such full joy. Not.
"I know."
"Wait. Then what about my grandson?"
"We don't know what it is yet, father," I say.
"Well? Is she going to prohibit you from seeing your child?"
"I don't know,"
Hopefully she doesn't do that, she knows how much I want a kid. Athena isn't evil like that.
Father is in disbelief. "Great! Ha! Just great, my son is an idiot."
I hate this side of him. He has too much pride. He thinks of me as a failure. I'm no man to him if I let my wife leave me and my child.
"Look, I contacted a friend, he can help you through the divorce," Father gives me a white business card. "Call him today."
"You think I need to fight custody of my child?" I ask, "Athena will allow me to see my kid whenever I want to."
"Please, you bought her," father says, "she doesn't love you anymore."
I want to punch his face, but he is right. She hates me now.
"Just don't be stupid about your kid and divorce. She might get this house and most of your money," father stands and excuses himself to the kitchen. He is probably going to drink some whiskey.
....Next day
I have in my hands the divorce papers. This was so fast. How did Athena get a good lawyer? Is someone helping her with money?
I put the papers down on my home office desk. She doesn't want money or the house. She simply wants to get rid of me.
For the baby, well, I can see him/her every other weekend.
There's a knock on the door. "Hey," the door opens slightly and I see Henry.
I signal him to come in and I lean against the desk. "Fancy seeing you here," I say.
He stops in front of me. "I know where Athena is now. I'm going to visit her."
"Why?"
"Whoa, you knew where she was?" He asks.
I nod. "Yeah just yesterday."
"Then? Why not go to her?"
I will just get dumped. "I told you she left me. She won't welcome me."
"She hasn't told me why she left you, so why don't you tell me?" He asks.
I say no. "Just be a good friend, that's all you want right?"
He grins, "Why the question?"
I cross my arms against my chest. "She is still my wife."
"Then fight for her." Henry says. He leaves with the last word. Is he challenging me so I can fight for Athena?
Is he helping me?ATHENA POV
I am at the doctor's office. I'm going to get my first sonogram.
"You alright?" Henry asks.
I look at him. "Yeah. Thanks for coming. My mom was going to be here."
"It's okay. I'm your buddy. Buddies support buddies," he pats my leg.
"Athena Trevor," a nurse opens the door. I feel kind of weird when people say my nane. I will change that too when I finalize the divorce. We stand and go in.
"Okay, we are going to take your weight, temperature, and blood pressure," the nurse says. I nod. The nurse does her work with a random question here and there.
"Okay, you can lay here, the doctor will come in a bit," the nurse leaves. Henry helps me get on the bed. "So, how's your dad?" He asks.
I lay down, "Fine. My mom won't divorce him but they aren't together yet."
Henry looks down at me. "They love each other right?"
I nod. "They do. That's not a lie, but my mom is tired of his actions."
I turn my head towards Henry. He takes my hand and sits on the chair next to the bed.
"And you haven't talk to Shawn?"
I take my hand back and sigh. "We should stop talking about this."
The door opens and a female doctor comes in. She smiles, "Hello, I'm Dr. Clarence, nice to meet you. Thanks for choosing me as a care taker of you and your baby."
I shake her hand, "you have good references, and one of my mom's friend had you as the doctor."
She smiles and looks at Henry. "Congratulations Mr. Trevor," she shakes his hand. Henry chuckles, and I'm so embarrassed.
"Thanks, did it on the first try," Henry smirks.
Oh my gosh! Why did he say that?
"No!" I yell. "He is my friend, not my husband or the father," I say.
Dr. Clarence blushes and chuckles nervously. "Oh, heh, sorry, I am sorry, don't mean to offend any one."
Henry laughs, "Oh wow, nah its cool."
I punch him in the arm as he stands. "Let's just get this over with," I say.
Dr. Clarence nods and prepares the machine. She tells me to raise my shirt and she puts the jelly on my stomach.
"Okay, let's see if we can get a picture," she says.
I look at the screen. It takes a while until I see something blinking.
"Is that the baby?" Henry asks.
Dr. Clarence smiles, "Yes. Let me get the heartbeat."
I smile wide. It's okay. Then the beating of its heart invades the place.
I chuckle and fear a lump in my throat. I feel my stomach with butterflies and my lung compressing in.
"It's healthy. You are about 2 months going to 3."
"Thanks you," I chuckle with my eyes getting watery.
She tells me to clean up. She is writing down things on my health folder.
"Congrats Athena," Henry smiles. I hug him after I clean myself.
"Thanks for sticking around."
"I'm going to get you the picture and your prescription. You will come back in about 3 weeks."
Dr. Clarence leaves.
I sigh in relief. At least my baby is okay.
Henry and I leave and go to my mom's house again.
We order pizza and watch a whole Nicolas Sparks romance movies. I only cried with the Notebook movie. Henry cried with the "Last Song" one. Go figure.
"That was such a waste of time," Henry says. I nod. We are still on the couch.
"But it was fun," I say.
He pokes my arm. "Yeah."
"I gotta pee," I stand.
"Eew."
I chuckle and walk towards the bathroom. I do my business and watch my hands.
I suddenly hear the door bell and and guy's voice.
I get out and go to the living room.
He turns around and has a bouquet of red roses.
"Can we talk now?" Shawn asks.
Henry stands next to me. "I love you, that's why I called him. You love him still. Talk now. Clear things." He walks out and closes the door.
I'm left here with Shawn.
