The next morning – after hurrying to change out of my PJs and brush my teeth – I began to deliver the presents that I'd gotten for my friends.
First and most importantly, I visited Gaius's apartment and was warmly welcomed by my surrogate grandpa/paternal figure as he gave me a gentle hug. Then I ran to hug my best friend, who happily returned the embrace.
I set down the duffel bag I was using to transport the gifts atop the work table.
"So... I brought y'all some things from America," I announced with a smirk as I unzipped the bag. The pair watched in curiosity as I pulled out the first gift, which was a hoodie that was designed off Doctor Strange's costume in the MCU. I promptly handed it to Merlin and watched in amusement as he looked it over. "That's from Doctor Strange," I noted. He hasn't seen the movies, of course, because he gets a headache when looking at the screen of my tablet; but I've compared him to the character enough times for him to have a general idea of what he does.
"Right, the sorcerer from the Avengers," he noted while sending me a wink.
"Yep!" I returned the gesture and gave him a side hug.
The next gift I pulled out was the giant science encyclopaedia I'd bought for Gaius. The elderly man took the book with a wondrous look forming on his features and I smiled widely when he looked it over as if it were the richest treasure he'd ever seen.
"It's the biggest one I could find," I noted with a sheepish grin.
A smile formed on Gaius's lips as he turned to me, "This is incredible, dear girl. Thank you."
I gave him a smile in return and returned to the bag, this time retrieving the 'Hedwig the Owl' Build-A-Bear I'd gotten for Merlin. I handed it to him and explained, "That's from a franchise called 'Harry Potter', which is about children with magic, and Hedwig is Harry's pet."
My best friend chuckled and shook his head before pulling me in for a hug. "This is amazing, Astra," he claimed and kissed the top of my head, which made me smile even more.
"I'm not done yet!" I stated and returned to the bag, getting the PJ sets that I'd gotten for each of them.
Merlin's was navy blue fleece with a pattern of smiley yellow stars; and Gaius's was even more childish – a grey long-sleeve shirt with an image of Yoda on it, and plaid black and white pants.
"That's Yoda. He's a wise teacher – like you!" I told the physician, who gave me a half smile in return before analysing the image with a hint of scepticism in his eyes. Then he finally grinned fully and thanked me.
I got one more hug from each of my former roomies and then I made them promise to save me some breakfast before getting on with my gift delivery. Next stop: Morgana's room.
