Note: This is a one shot, apart from the scenarios I do in this chapter, they will be around 8 and 9 years old.

Context:Lately you see macaque very tired, so much so that you wonder if he is really sleeping as much as a normal person should so you decide to stay awake to spy on him.

POV

You were lying in your bed with the covers pulled up to your head hugging a small pillow like a stuffed animal pretending to be sound asleep while still feeling your father's form sitting on the edge of your bed, checking to make sure you were completely asleep you heard a heavy sigh and then felt your bed stop coming together as you lost your father's weight.

A soft caress on your cheek came from macaque gently stroking you with his paws and soft jet fur, he stroked you a few last times before retreating and going to his room, when you no longer heard footsteps near your room or the hallway you stared at the ceiling sighing in relief.

A few seconds passed then minutes until it became hours, you could hear the hands of your little needle alarm clock counting down the seconds slowly becoming a torturing sound, you sighed again as you sat up in your place, pulled the covers off you and moved to the edge of the bed lowering yourself as slowly as possible so as not to be overheard after all your father's name is not Six Eared Macaque for nothing.

You take your pillow and a small blanket in your arms and begin to tiptoe towards your father's room. With every step you took you heard strange sounds leaving you petrified you couldn't identify what they were, whispering? sobbing? both? You didn't know exactly, but one thing you did know was that they were coming from macaque.

You shook your head to keep the bad thoughts away and kept walking you got closer and closer to the door of macaque's room feeling the aura getting heavier with every step you took, you peeked your head inside his room seeing nothing but a dense darkness consuming everything around your father as you got closer you could clearly hear his sobs and murmurs.

-Leave me at .... just .... let me go ..... I don't know the way to .... please....

You watched and listened as Macaque writhed as if he was trying to free himself from something, struggling as if the sheets were keeping him imprisoned in the same place, unable to do anything but writhe, at this moment you felt very hurt to see his state, but at the same time confused by everything he was saying, "Who are they taking with them in their nightmare? You thought, but you shook your head again to dispel the question.

Macaque is having a horrible nightmare, is that why he doesn't sleep well at night? How long has he been going through this on his own?

You could still hear him moaning and sobbing quietly "he must be having a really horrible nightmare" you thought ,you stared at him moving around until it was enough for you ,you didn't want to stand by and watch the one person you loved most in this world suffer through his nightmares ,you climbed onto his bed and grabbed his arm and shook it gently.

-Daddy, Daddy, wake up, you're dreaming!

-L-let go of me ....-

You decided to shake him a little harder still calling out to him, the murmuring started to cease all at once along with an awakened and shaken macaque, he looked at every corner of the room until his tear filled golden eyes finally settled on you as he saw your worried look and felt his cold sweat he knew he was caught he looked up at the clock on his bedside table.

00:00 a.m.

-He-hey bright eyes...w-what are you doing up at this hour?

-Daddy, are you all right?

Macaque was shocked to see that you evaded his question with another one, he has you worried sick and he doesn't know why, but he hates that feeling, he hates it with all his dark soul, he sighed looking in the opposite direction all to avoid your gaze.

-Y-yes darling, I'm fine, it was just a nightmare. ....

-Nightmare?

-....yeah.... a bad dream... -

-Do you want to talk about it daddy?

Macaque shook his head in protest as he wiped away the tears that were threatening to come, you puffed out your cheeks at his response, you thought for a few seconds until you had an idea, you took Macaque's arm and made him lie down in a more comfortable position, confused he let you do whatever you did while he tried to figure out what you were up to.

-Eeeh, Y/N what are you doing?

You didn't answer as you lay down on your father's soft and furry chest while you covered your little body with your blanket and his blankets, hugging his chest, while he hugged you with his strong arms still a little confused, noticing that you decided to explain.

-When I have nightmares you always stay with me until they go away and I go back to sleep, so this time I will do the same, I will always protect you while you sleep daddy!

You said with the brightest smile in the world, macaque could almost swear it was shining even in the dense darkness that ruled his room, he let out a small laugh at such an adorable action, feeling even calmer after his bad dreams.

-All right baby, you win, you see, let's go to sleep for once.

-Okay, goodnight daddy, I'll take care of you and make sure you have sweet dreams.

You said, nodding off a little, your bedtime was long gone and macaque's soft fur was getting more and more drowsy, but you were doing your best to fight the sleep, macaque laughed again, feeling sleepy and you both shared a few last caresses until you fell into a deep sleep together.

Since you came into macaque's life he always thought that he couldn't be a good father or even give you what you deserve for being a good girl, causing all those nightmares, they took away his friend and left him completely alone and forgotten, he doesn't want that to happen again with you, that one day you will disappear and leave him alone again.

But seeing your worried look and your sweet actions, he realised that you are still a baby, his baby, it will be years and years before you grow up, but you will never forget him after all you said it, you will always protect him like he protects you and that will never change.
