Three consecutive knocks echoed in her room.

"Your Highness, the queen is asking for your presence at the Ball." A muffled voice coming from a lady servant announced, which resulted for the princess to groan in annoyance.

"Tell mom that I won't be attending," She refused as she looked at herself in the mirror, watching her other servants dressed her up in force. She clicked her tongue, "Can you please stop putting this gown on me? I said I don't wanna go."

One of her servants spoke, "I'm afraid we can't disobey the queen's order, Princess Alice."

Alice sighed in defeat and let them do what they need to do.

Today, the palace is celebrating her 18th birthday. And as usual, the palace opened a grand ball for her where other princes, dukes, lords, princesses, and every high-class people coming from different kingdoms would likely appear.

And that's what she hates.

She despises people.

She doesn't adore the idea of showing different facade to these important people just to maintain her image as a royal princess.

She doesn't like faking a smile and forcing herself to have conversations with these people she's unfamiliar with just to guarantee a connection that she'll benefit in the future.

She's not ready for her mom to insist her to find young gentleman with power that might piqued her interest and have a date with them just to ensure the bright future of her family.

But too bad she's a princess and it's her birthday.

After getting herself dressed up, she studied herself in the mirror. She's wearing a dark red ballgown that's shining because of the beaded crystals all over it. She also wore her favorite silver necklace while her long hair was tied into a bun and was decorated with some hairpins.

The servants was in awe when they all stared at her. One of them commented, "Oh dear, you look lovely!"

A huge smile was etched on Alice's lips as she turned to them, "Thank you for your help and I apologize for being stubborn."

"Don't stress about it, Your Highness. We did what we have to do. Enjoy your birthday!" The other replied before all of them said their farewells and left Alice alone in her room.

Alice closed her eyes for a brief moment and took a deep breath. Beneath her feet, she can feel the mild vibrations coming from the music on the ground floor. The ball has already started and without any other choice, she accepted her fate.

That she'll be doing her responsibility as a princess instead of enjoying her special day like a normal teenager.

Another knock interrupted her alone time so she heaved a sigh and announced, "Okay, I'm coming!"
