Home should be one of the places that serves the greatest comfort for one's being. Yet, to Beomgyu, it was the most suffocating space he's ever been.
His hometown is beyond beauty. The air is fresher than those they had in large cities. It leaves that hint of sweetness, which automatically gives someone a sense of relief and relaxation. Beomgyu felt that, kind of, until he was inside their very home.
The silence is killing him. The awkwardness is torturing him as he and his mother were sat in the dining table, consuming the food that he requested.
Beomgyu thought he can act normal. I mean, he's used to do that whenever he meets his mother. But this time, it's different.
He feels like a guilty prisoner, trying to prove he's innocent in front of the court—and the court is the pair of eyes of his mother that was perusing over him.
"So," Mrs. Choi gently wiped off the sauce beneath her lips with a clean napkin as she continued, "do you have a girlfriend now?"
Beomgyu tensed up a bit, but he brushed it off with a light chuckle, "Mom, I'm focusing on my career first."
"What? You will just waste your time!" Mrs. Choi protested, "How 'bout that good friend of yours, what's her name again-- Oh! Ryujin?"
"What about her?" Beomgyu muttered.
Mrs. Choi plastered a cheeky smile, "Why don't you date her? You'll be great partners!"
Beomgyu held back the urge to roll his eyes and swallowed the light curse back to his throat. Instead, he forced a smile, "No, I can't date her. She's my best friend! And we're better off to stay that way."
"I see," Mrs. Choi shrugged her shoulders, "If that's the case, then I would want you to meet someone!"
Beomgyu scowled after hearing her words, "Mom, I don't have time for that."
"Oh, please," She rolled her eyes, "You're at the right age and you're a fine young man! You should go out there and find love!"
Beomgyu soughed and got up from his seat, "I have no time for this conversation," he said and walked away.
"Where are you going?" Mrs. Choi's voice echoed. But Beomgyu pretended like he didn't hear her question as he walked out of the house.
Once the door was shut, Beomgyu released the breath he didn't know he was holding.
It was funny how his mother kept on insisting him to 'go out there and find love'. Because the last time he did, things didn't go well.
Beomgyu can still remember the first time he felt that foreign feeling. That thing that tickles your lower belly and makes you catch your breath all the time.
He recalled the beauty that changed his life.
Beomgyu shook his head, stopping the memories from surging back in. He moved his feet and sauntered around the street. As he was enjoying the soft wind that brushes his hair, his cellphone chimed.
Since there's nothing else to do but to take a look around, he got his phone from his pocket and checked the notification.
