Jana's POV
Carys is understandably agitated. Her father's wounds are deep and still pulsating, but the bleeding has stopped for now. Maddy's parents are watching him while I pack a few things. We've decided to go back to the wild to see the pack. If they've been given this new serum, there's no telling how long it will take for them to turn on each other.
Carys sits on her bed watching me stuff my few clothes into my bag, "I don't think we should go."
"My pack needs me, I have to go. You don't have to be scared of the pack, we'll protect you. Or you can stay here, we'll be back before you know it."
"It's not that," Carys stands up and takes my bag from me, "Jana, I don't want you going out there," she throws it aside and grabs my hands, "This Kincaid guy could target you and Rhydian. You said yourself he has some crazy vendetta against you guys, not just Wolfbloods. It's personal to him," she squeezes my hands, "And you can bet that he's even more mad after Rhydian and the others escaped for a second time. He's not going to let this go."
"We've stopped him before, we can do it again." I know she's worried, I am too. But we don't have a choice, we have to do this. "I have people relying on me, Ceri and Gerwyn are the Alphas, yes, but they're not themselves, so the responsibility falls to me, and I don't take it lightly"
"Trust me, I know what it's like to have people to take care of. But my dad could still die, and that's already too much."
"Carys, I-"
"No, listen, because Kincaid is not the only danger out there. Look, I was wrong to blame your pack and I'm sorry, but if they've taken that serum stuff then they're not themselves right now. They could hurt you just like they hurt my dad, or worse. Please Jana, I don't want to lose you."
"I know it's a risk," I start, "But it's a risk I have to take, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I could have done something to help and I didn't, surely you understand that?"
"Yeah, yeah of course," she sighs.
"I'm strong, aren't I?" She nods. "And I won't be alone. Okay? Nothing bad will happen to me, I promise," I wrap my arms around her, "Please trust me, Carys."
"Okay, yeah I trust you," she buries her face in my hair while I hold her close. "Just be careful."
Once I have packed, we go back out to the living room. Rhydian, Maddy, Aran and dad are all waiting outside. "I have to go, but don't worry, Daniel and Emma are circling the territory now, looking out for Kincaids men. Tom and Shannon will be here with you," I tell Carys. She's known them as long as she's known me, and even though she gets along with them, she's still a bit iffy about sharing things with them when it comes to Wolfblood stuff. I was the same when I found out they knew the truth. "Shan," I call her over, "Phone Mr. Jeffries, tell him we won't be in, but don't tell him too much, and keep an eye on her too."
"Yeah, of course."
"Jana, I can take care of myself, I told you it's you I'm worried about."
"I'll be fine. I'll be with Rhydian and the others, and he's got his phone, we'll call you," I kiss her on the cheek before turning to leave.
Carys grabs my hand, her eyes dart side to side while she makes a decision, "Wait," she turns to Tom and Shannon, "Could you guys keep an eye on him?" She asks, and Shannon nods.
"Carys, what are you doing?" I ask.
"I'm coming with you, give me two minutes," she crosses the living room and goes back to her bedroom, I follow her.
"Carys, no, you should stay," I only said she could come before because I was sure she wouldn't, but all the reasons she wanted me to stay are the same reasons I want her to stay somewhere she's safe.
