Germany-1915

The soldiers were in the carriage for quite a while, and the horses pulled them to their destination. The sky was now gloomy and barely showed color, and smoke flew in the air where the battlefield was left.

Ludwig and Y/N messed around, which gave the commander a small smile. Still, it hurt his heart to watch his Liebling laughing at another soldier's jokes and stories.

The carriage stopped, and a man pulled the door open. The commander got out first before Ludwig and Y/N. The soldiers from outside saluted to their higher-ranked officers only to receive a smile and nod from the lieutenant.

Ludwig stood behind the lieutenant. His attention was drawn to two soldiers who ran towards Y/N with smiles. They must be Felix and Gunther. The two soldiers greeted Y/N and saluted them.

"Felix! Gunther! Meet Ludwig! He's from Austria-Hungary, and he's here with his fellow soldiers to help us." Y/N said with a smile that could warm anyone's heart.

Gunther and Felix looked at each other than at the small Austrian soldier, Ludwig was younger than the two, and it made him nervous to see two full-grown Germans.

Felix starts laughing, and he pats Ludwig's back, which makes him stumble. "The little fella is scared of us! Isn't that a surprise!" Felix said loudly, Ludwig laughs nervously.

The sounds of guns and artillery firing broke the heartwarming reunion. The commander looked at the battlefield and ordered the soldiers to the front, but he kept Y/N behind to keep the other soldiers in line.

"See you on the other side, Gunther and Y/N! Teach little Ludwig what we know!" Felix yelled. He walked beside the commander, and the two went off to the battlefield with the trio, wishing them luck.

Ludwig stared at the way the duo went. He looked at Y/N, and he rubbed his neck with his hand. "Do you think he'll come back?" He asked. The lieutenant looked down at Ludwig and softly smiled at him.

"Of course, he'll come back! He's Felix!" Y/N said joyfully, Gunther chuckled and nodded in agreement.

"We should go let the other soldiers keep their ground in the trenches just in case the British and French come in," Gunther said. He walked off in a different direction. Y/N and Ludwig followed the German soldier and did what the commander wanted.

Soot and ember flew in the air, and the young soldier ran out from the trenches. They looked around, their eyes filled with worries and anxiety. The French surprised and attacked them, but they still gained a victory, but at what cost?

Y/N was filled with adrenaline and ran across the battlefield, past bodies of dead soldiers. They couldn't hear Gunther and Ludwig calling their name, Y/N was scanning across the burnt field.

Their eyes landed on a tall figure with a pickelhaube, the German Empire. Without hesitation, they ran towards their commander only to stop when they saw who he was holding in his arms.

Felix, the poor older German soldier, was killed by the artillery. The commander looked down at Y/N with sorrow in his eyes. He carefully set Felix down, and that's when Y/N dropped to their knees.

"I'm sorry, Y/N... He was our greatest soldier." Reich said, he bent down to comfort his lieutenant.

Gunther and Ludwig caught up to Y/N and saw that they were mourning Felix's death.

After a while, Y/N felt too numb to move, so the commander decided to carry them while Gunther and Ludwig followed close behind, leaving Felix's body to rot in the burnt ashes of the battlefield.

Y/N had their face stuffed into Reich's soldier, their grip tightening onto his uniform. The commander pats their back and whispered to them.

"You're safe with me."
