"You're Rolf's sister, right?" asked the boy to Juno's left at the Hufflepuff table during the feast.
Juno smiled, "Yes, I'm Juno."
"Nice to meet you, Juno," he said, "I'm Ernie."
"It's nice to meet you too, Ernie."
Ernie proceeded to introduce Juno to his friends: Hannah, Susan, Justin, Wayne and Zacharias. They all accepted Juno easily and friendly—like her mother said a Hufflepuff would—and she was liking Hogwarts already.
Rolf watched his sister with a smile from down the house table, glad she was fitting in easy enough.
Juno glanced up to the table next to the Hufflepuff one, Gryffindor, her eyes caught on a pair of striking green ones. They were curious and widened at being caught, Juno smiled at the boy. She looked beside him to a boy with flaming red hair and immediately recognized him, he too was staring at her, though when he realized his face broke into a shocked grin.
Lightly, Juno waved at Ron—who waved back.
"You know Ron?" Hannah asked from her other side.
Turning to her new friend, Juno nodded, "I do, we grew up together."
"You grew up together?" repeated Wayne across from the girls, "I thought you lived in America? Or at least that's what Rolf said last year."
Juno laughed lightly, "Well, yes, I did live in America, but I grew up in England. When I turned eleven, I moved to my grandparents so I could go to Ilvermorny."
Wayne 'oh-ed' at this.
"You've left your friends behind, though. Why'd you come back?" asked Hannah.
"I did leave some friends behind, but I mostly stuck with my cousins—the Goldsteins are a large family," said Juno.
"Goldsteins?" piped up Zacharias. "We have An—"
"Anthony," Juno cut the boy off, "I know, he's one of my favourites— just don't tell the others."
The fourth-year Hufflepuffs all laughed together.
"As for why I came back —" Juno redirected her attention to Hannah, "— my father was hospitalized, being at Hogwarts is closer should things go badly."
"Oh no," Susan's face collapsed into concern, "Is he okay? What happened?"
Juno smiled, "He's tougher than we give him credit for. He was a director for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, there was an... accident."
They all offered their early condolences, but weren't overbearing of the situation.
Later that evening, after they'd finished dessert, Dumbledore stood to announce there would be no quidditch tournament this year. Almost everyone in the hall—save for the teachers—was outraged at this.
"I was gonna try out this year!" Rolf huffed rather loudly along with everyone else.
The Triwizard Tournament would be taking place instead and would start at the very end of October with the arrival of the other two schools—Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. This was going to be an interesting year.
Maybe grandad has been winning the argument after all.
