Jeena's Point of View
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"You've asked me this every day since... you know. And I tell you every time, I'm fine."
"You haven't showed one sign of sulking! Or depression for that matter! And you're sober!"
DJ looked up from her notebook and raised an eyebrow. "First of all, keep your voice down, we're in the school library. Second, shouldn't you be happy that I'm okay?"
I groaned at her calmness and terribly convincing response. "I just can't believe you're not at home with alcohol bottles everywhere and adding tear stains to your pillow. And why aren't you angry at me?!"
This distracted her. "Why would I be mad at you?"
"Because I'm still the girlfriend of his best friend!"
"I have work to catch up on." I watched her stand up and walk to a different table, all the way across the room. I would've followed her, but I knew she didn't want to talk about it.
As soon as we got back to our apartment, I grabbed the end of her shirt to keep her from moving anywhere. "Sit down and talk to me."
I didn't let her go until I locked the door.
"I'll ask again." She was resting her elbow on the armrest of the couch with her head resting on her fist, like she was so over with my conversation already. "Why aren't you mad at me?"
She sighed aggressively. "Because Andy didn't do anything! He didn't even know he was out with that other chick."
"But he did know that George did something that would probably ruin someone's life."
She went silent, and I wondered if I should've worded it differently
"Yeah, but...," she closed her eyes. "It's my fault."
"Excuse me?" My eyebrows could've gone through the roof.
"It is." She stood up to walk into the kitchen. "If I had told your brother to not come into my room anymore, George wouldn't have thought I was using him, and we wouldn't be in this situation."
"But you couldn't have known he was coming that day." I took a chip from the plate she was bringing over, mainly for herself.
"But your brother has done it before." She admitted. "It's, actually very annoying. I'm happy he hasn't come back."
Just then there was a knock on the door. "I'll get it." She sighed and got up from the couch for a second time.
She opened it, and I nearly laughed out of disbelief.
"DJ! Are you okay? You haven't called or anything! Jeena wouldn't let me in here so I couldn't come see you." Sure enough, it was my brother.
She turned slowly back toward me and scrunched her lips into a straight line and raised her eyebrows.
I saw my brother definitely got taller, since he just about passed DJ's height already. I'm not sure why he's still growing.
"Deej?"
"Don't call me that." She sat on the couch next to me again, between me and the end so Jimmy couldn't sit next to her I assumed.
"But are you okay?" He still sat on the armrest anyway and bent down to look at her.
She uncomfortably backed up and said, "I'm fine. Why are you here?"
"Because I though we could hang out. You know, take your mind off of some stuff? That is, if you want to."
