CHAPTER 1

Mist curled its lacey fingers around the lucious undergrowth and thick trees as the morning trudged slowly along. I looked around, wondering where I could possibly go to get away from this growing feeling of dread inside of me. As I spotted a dip in the ground some ways off, I heard a rustling sound behind me and made up my mind. There was no going back. I ran for the dip and as I got there, I realized that it was larger than I had thought it originally was. It was a canyon.

I cast a glance over my shoulder as I heard the rustling again. I made my decision and jumped over the cliff-edge of the valley. I soared above the trees for a solid four seconds, then started to plummate towards the earth, slowly increasing speed. I stared at the gorgeous valley beneath me, feeling a sense of inner peace as I plummated to my almsot certain death. When I was some twenty or so meters above the tops of tree tops, my mind decided to snap into action. My head snapped forward and I saw my gaze go slightly hazey as my body pulled up even with the trees below me and started moving fowards. That's right, I was FLYING. Even though I've done it a million times, I still can't get rid of the haziness when I start to fly. Of course, it goes away after a few minutes of steady flight, but it makes focussing a little harder when your vision isn't completely clear.

So, there I was, soaring gracefully through the sky. I searched for a cool current I could glide on, and then sailed smoothly through the crisp morning air. Now, I know what you're thinking: "When is there going to be some action in this crazy story?". Well, I don't like to disappoint. While I was just drifting through air currents, my gaurd was unusually down. A sound down below in the forest caught my attetion. That was where things got bad. It was him. Again. That stubborn teen just wouldn't give up!

Anyways, when I heard the sound of gunshots in the dark growth below, my immediate reaction was to hide and pray for my life. But where? There really isn't a good place to hide when you're in the sky. So instead I pushed my flying capability into over drive. Soon I was flying at over 120 miles per hour. When Lake Michigan came into view on the horizon, I dropped out of what I like to call my "warp drive" and started searching for a safe place to land.

About half an hour later, I had settled for a nice little strawberry patch with a few maple trees on one end. I decided it was as good a place as any to spend the night, and at least there was food there. So I climbed up one of the nice little maples and sat in the crook of a branch. It was actually pretty comfortable, apparently so much that I actually dozed off for the first time in days, because a few hours later I awoke to the sound of guns being cocked and about twenty fifteen-year-old boys staring up at me with vicious glares. I considered myself dead right then and there.
