That's what it felt like walking around the room, thanking all of her new castmates for their congratulations on her getting the leading lady ─ something she had dreamed about since she was a little girl.
But even as she continued smiling, receiving praises and light, yet excited arm squeezes, the tragedy of her Romeo ─ oh, irony, you sweet bastard ─ lingered in the back of Wyatt Buckley's mind.
It was just so bittersweet.
Especially when Yasmine Kennedy approached her with a sour grin, and a twisted expression as she struggled to get out the words "well done, Wyatt" in a public setting.
Yasmine was once public enemy number one. But now that threat had been terminated and Wyatt couldn't even bring herself to truly appreciate it.
"Theodore Nott as Romeo, though?" Yasmine cooed. She was either far too excited to have Theodore in the play because she fancied him or she was happy that there was some kind of spanner in the works of Wyatt's dream.
Wyatt forced her smile but it was no doubt as acidic as Yasmine's. "Congratulations on getting Lady Capulet," she said, ignoring the mention of Theodore entirely because she wasn't going to let Yasmine know how much it was getting to her. "I'm sure you'll do amazingly."
Yasmine's tongue twisted in her mouth as she sported the same sickly sweet smile, this time also offering a tilt of her head.
Wyatt stalked off then. In fact, she left the room completely. Smiling her goodbyes as she went because the room had got very stuffy all of a sudden. And Yasmine's audacity to taunt her about Theodore ─ an inexperienced, and most likely, unreliable, actor who is supposed to compliment her acting ─ had tipped her off the edge. She no longer wanted to bask in her new-found acting glory.
But she couldn't escape it. Even as she left the room and entered the hallway, she saw crew members who sent her wide toothy grins and rushed congratulations. It was practically echoing around her. But with the extra space and loss of feeling like she was suffocating due to the claustrophobia, she was actually much more prepared to accept the applause with gratitude.
