Chapter 20: Jack & Destiny

Habang binabagtas ang loob nang corn maze ay nag-usap kami ni Destiny.

Inamin ko sa kanya I was in love with her too.

Bigla siyang yumakap sa akin.

Napatingin tuloy ang isang grupo ng mga teenager na nasa loob din ng maze.

"What about Liam" Tanong ko habang hinahawi ang matatalas na dahon nang mais.

Nakahawak sa kamay ko si Destiny and it felt good.

"What about him?"

"Aren't you guys together?"

Natawa siya.

"No. He asked but my heart belongs to someone else." Hinipo niya ang gilid nang pisngi ko bago tumingkayad at humalik.

I held and kissed her so many times but it felt different this time.

Somehow, it was as if I was meant to hold her like this.

To want more and not think that in a few days, she will be gone again.

"There is one thing I want to ask of you."
We made our way to the narrow trail.

Up ahead, the teenagers stopped and posed for pictures.

"Have you given any thought to what you want to do about your name?"

"I have."

"Good."

"You will be with me?"

"Of course. I'm your sidekick remember?" She grinned.

On a bright and sunny day, Destiny and I drove to my father's house.

"You're good?" She parked in front of the two-story stucco I grew up in.

The lawn was well trimmed.

There was a row of white, yellow and red tulips planted beneath the large bay window.

The house looked quiet but his car was on the driveway so I know he was home.

"Don't worry. I got this." I leaned and kiss her lips.

Destiny pulled my jacket and I was once again lost in wonder.

I felt her pull away leaving me gasping and wanting more.

"You'd better go before you change your mind." Her smiling eyes were teasing me.

I shook my head before unlocking the car.

"Text me if you need the getaway car."

"Oh I will." I kissed her one more time before stepping out.

As I made my way to the ten steps that led to the front door, my legs were heavy and hesitant.

But it's time to do this.

I prolonged talking to my father for a very long time.

There was this fear that he would get angry or he wouldn't understand.

But maybe it wasn't him I should be worried about.

It was me.

I was the one who was afraid.

Kapag takot ako, I abandon the idea kahit pa alam ko na it would bother me that I didn't even try.

Nangyari iyon nang bumalik si Mama para gawing pormal ang paghihiwalay nila.

Kahit alam ko na ang reason kung bakit siya bumalik, kahit gusto kong marinig mismo mula kay Papa ang rason, natakot akong magtanong kaya hindi ko ginawa.
