Sunlight flashed into Dibs eyes as he cracked his eyelids open.
Feeling a space of empty room beside him. Dib pushed himself up, rubbing himself awake as he looked around, unable to see Zim anywhere. The fire from last night was blown out, only the darkened, burnt logs left of what remains. Dib stood up, brushing off the dirt as he stretched his back. Sleeping on dirt ground isn't the best place to sleep really. Dib looked around the surrounding area, not seeing Zim still. Feeling curious he decided to explore a bit, walking past a few trees, pondering if it was just endless trees.
Dib walked forward, looking to the sides of him, seeing neverending row of trees. Zim must of really went far into this woods to be this much trees everywhere. Dib wondered to himself, looking everywhere but straight ahead of him. Finally turning his eyes towards where he was walking and see no more trees in front of him. Not even any grass, just blue sky. Then Dib quickly realised he was walking right towards an edge. Stopping right as his foot, peaked over the edge, causing Dib to flail his arms around to control his balance. Feeling himself slowly leaning forward, seeing the very deep drop into more ground.
Before Dib was able to completely lose his balance though, something tugged him away and dragged him back, causing him to fall back onto level ground. Hitting his ass back onto the hard bark.
"Watch where you're walking- stupid!"
Zim exclaimed, standing beside Dib who was grabbing onto the loose bark harder than ever, his breathing becoming heavy now."C'mon- stop being such a baby."
Zim moved on, away from the cliff as Dib looked up and quickly rushed back onto his feet, following behind Zim."How did you know i was here?"
Dib asked, looking around but also keeping his eyes in front of him. Avoiding to make the same mistake. Zim was silent, almost contemplating whether he should answer that."I just did! Okay, now stop asking so many questions."
Zim walked even faster, appearing back at the old camp site, grabbing the bag of money and throwing it over to Dib, who caught it with a 'oof' at how heavy the bag really was."Are we going somewhere?"
Dib asked as Zim continued walking- away from the original campsite."Unless you want to either be caught by those flashing light people or die of either starvation, predators or freezing to death."
"Touché, and do you mean the police?"
Dib followed, seeing as Zim just let out some gargled noise, tracing his wrist around as his sharp teeth were exposed. Dib really didn't know how to take that but just accepted it. For miles they walked, past lots and lots of trees. Dib could feel his legs start to give in as he constantly readjusted how he held the bag. Above the shoulder, under his arm, the sleeves wrapped over his shoulder. Even once on his head, but it was still heavy and exhausting."Can we take a small break, my legs are getting tired."
Zim turned around to see Dib lean against a tree, obviously exhausted. He just sighed, rolling his eyes as he walked over to Dib."Fiiine- but a short one!"
Dib dropped the massive bag right on the ground, thankful nothing breakable was in it. Slumping against the tree and slouching down to the ground, letting out a big groan. Zim tapped his feet as he watched Dib catch his breath. Searching around and seeing nothing Zim sat down as well, a few feet aways from Dib."Man... i use to be really good at walking for long distances..."
Dib pondered to himself, rubbing his forehead as he stared at the ground, reliving some of his memories."You use to chase me alot too."
Zim pointed out, cupping his hands over his knees that were bent towards him. Dib let out a chuckle, turning to face the sky as he smiled to that memory."Heh yeah, i did... always fought to 'expose you to the world'... and stuff."
Dib slumped his shoulders, his eyebrows tilting, showing his expression change to that of sorrow."Then you..."
Dib faced back down, looking away as Zim caught on what he was referring to. The day Dib left. Zim looked at the ground, sensing a feeling that he hadn't usually felt before. One of a mix of sadness and guilt."Nevermind, okay we can continue walking."
Dib stood right back, looking away from Zim as he leant down to grab the bag. Zim took out a PAK leg, grabbing the bag before Dib and standing back up as well. Dib looked up at him, confused as he pulled out another mechanism, wrapping it around Dib."I can carry you until you can walk."
Zim hovered Dib above the ground, Dib now use to being picked up by Zim."It's... fine really Zim, you don't have to"-
"Zim Does As He Pleases!!"
Zim shouted out, his face seemingly changing colour as he twisted his body away from Dib and walking onwards. Dib rested himself, knowing it was useless to fight about something so dumb and Dib didn't actually mind. It was true, his legs were still tired. Zim moved on forward, carrying both Dib and the money, eventually seeing an area without miles of trees and seeing the sunlight, gleam down onto the seeming brown and reddish ground. Dib could see it as well, readjusting his glasses to get a better view of it as well.Pass all the trees, they both now see why there were no longer and trees. It had all been chopped down. The red tinted ground was, what was left of the woods that lived there. Now was only busy cars and tall, tall towers, vibrating the noises of honking cars and loud vrring through the ground.
"Well guess we found civilisation..."
Dib half joked, as Zim finally carefully placed him down, seeing the wreckage and still- building city in front of them. Both were completely mesmerised by the sight, they were almost startled by the very pissed off construction worker yelling at them."Oi! This is private property! You's need to leave!"
"Oh! Sorry sir, we didn't know..-"
Dib waved off, pushing Zims PAKs legs that were holding the bag of money behind him in hopes not to bring anymore suspicion."Make sure he doesn't see the bag."
Dib whispered as they quickly walked past the grumpy man, with Dib giving a weak innocent smile as the man just glared at him, with Zim glaring back. Walking out past a large gated fence onto a street, leading to the city. They walked on, looking at the massively tall buildings and long streets filled with thousands of people on each side. Dib admired all the different shops and locations he noted to come back to as Zim just analysed everyone around him. Trying to keep the bag hidden. Then a grumbling noise suddenly erupted, coming from Dibs stomach.
"Man i am hungry- i think it's time we get something to eat."
Dib moved on, looking at the millions of options of food places. Eventually stopping at a subway, standing in the front entrance, patting his empty pockets. Quickly realising the only money they had was that of stolen money. Dib swallowed any saliva in his mouth, feeling sweat drench his face."Whats making you look like a ghost?"
Zim questioned, seeing Dibs face turn pale."The only money we have is stolen money- what happens if it's like locked so if anyone tries to use it- they get cancelled or something??"
Dib began to bite his fingernails, trying to distract his nervous thoughts with some physical feeling. Zim just looked inside the bag, not really taking it as badly as Dib."They can track paper? Money is just paper isn't it?"
Zim questioned, stopping Dib from biting his fingers some more as he thought about that as well."Oh yeah... maybe this could work? But should we really be gambling possibly our lives for a sandwich??"
Dib questioned even more, twisting and turning around as his mind travelled all possibilities. Until a similar grumbling noise stopped in his tracks, reminding him he hungry he really is."Screw it- alright lets give it a shot."
Dib finally sprung up with Zim letting out a sigh as they both finally walked into the building. Both ordering a sandwich and choosing their own toppings to go onto it. Dib looked like a pro when choosing his. Like he had done this a million times. While on the other hand, Zim didn't. He just pointed at random things as the worker, serving him just raised an eyebrow, holding back snickers as he followed Zims orders.
