Midgard

Nolahni's whole mind went blank for the next hours. She watched Loki from a screen until Thor forcefully pulled her away from it. And by then, he was now the one whose eyes were stuck on a monitor. But it wasn't Loki, it was a woman the Novarkian did not know, but she suspected her to be the one who stole her best friend's heart as Thor looked at her with a nostalgic expression. By their side was the slightly shorter Agent Phil Coulson.

"As soon as Loki took the doctor we moved Jane Foster. We've got an excellent observatory in Traunsee. She was asked to consult there very suddenly yesterday. Handsome fee, private plane, very remote. She'll be safe." The agent reassured the tall blonde.

"Thank you. It's no accident Loki taking Erik Selvig. I dread what he plans for him once he's done. Erik is a good man." Thor said.

"He talks about you a lot, Erik. You changed his life. You changed everything around here."

"They were better as they were. We pretend on Asgard that we're more advanced, but we...we come here battling like Bilchsteim." He said, the brunette by his side sighing in agreement.

She could understand that they might have looked like colonisers to the Midgardians. She could understand that they were seen as a threat by them. Because her own people suffered battles from people who pretended being their friends. But in this situation, they truly had no bad intentions.

"Like what?" The Midgardian asked, confused.

"Bilchsteim? You know; huge, scaly, big antlers. You don't have those?"

"Don't think so."

"They are repulsive." A disgusted expression took over the woman.

"And they trample everything in their path." Thor walked over to the side of the ship and looked out the window, lamenting about what has happened and what may come. "When I first came to earth, Loki's rage followed me here and your people paid the price. And now again. In my youth I courted war."

"He targeted this place because of how attached you've become to its people. It's you he wants hurt." Nolahni mumbled.

"But not you. Which is why your presence is in our advantage." The bulky God tried to smile at her but her eyes stayed emotionless.

"Or is it?"

"War hasn't started yet." Director Fury walked in. "You think you can make Loki tell us what the Tesseract is?" He asked the brother first.

"I do not know. Loki's mind is far afield, it's not just power he craves, it's vengeance upon me. There's no pain that would prize his need from him."

"A lot of guys think that, until the pain stops."

"When does it stop then?" Nolahni asked.

"I wouldn't know."

"What are you asking me to do?" Thor questioned.

"I'm asking. What are you prepared to do?"

"Loki is a prisoner."

"Then why do I feel like he's the only person on this boat that wants to be here?" Thor doesn't answer, Nolahni looks back at a screen that showed Loki.

"He will be too bitter to talk with Thor. Too eager to make me switch sides. It's not us you should seek help from." She declared after a moment of silence.

"Then what are you suggesting?"

"You wish to know of the Tesseract's location." Nick nodded in confirmation. "It is clearly not on this ship, so why did he let himself get caught without fighting back?" She raised an eyebrow as Fury frowned.

"She's right. Captain Rogers also pointed out that something was fishy." Coulson agreed.

"There is something else he is seeking. Here is what you need to find out. And to accomplish the task, who better than her?" She pointed at the redhead woman standing a few meters away.

"Agent Romanoff?"

"An intelligent woman. You're putting your chances on us because we are family, but may you trust your own champions, you shall not be deceived by their capacities. She'll make him talk."

It was organised pretty quickly. Agent Romanoff went off to interrogate the God of Mischief as the others watched the interaction from the monitors, at the exception of Dr. Banner and the Starks who were still working in the lab.

Nolahni watched the man she loved dearly attempt to manipulate and insult the woman with the red hair, and her heart ached in her chest. Loki did always throw bitter or sarcastic comments here and there, but this was so unlike him.

He has changed so much that she barely recognised her husband anymore. Was that the same man she married? Or was it simply someone who looked like him? He was unreasonable, and she could not face him anymore.

That was another reason why she thought the Midgardian was more suited for the job. But when she saw her act disturbed by the man's words, she wondered if her intuition had wronged her.

But her doubts disappeared the next second, when Loki let something slip and she was quick to analyse it. She had been acting all along.

Nolahni could not help the smirk that took over her lips. That's a worthy opponent.

"You were right." Thor told her.

"This woman is sharp. She would've been sent there if I suggested it or not." The brunette Goddess shrugged.

"Would it really be useless if you tried questioning him about the Tesseract?"

"He would mislead us. I cannot take another of his sick games."

After a moment of silence, he turned to her. "Do you regret your marriage?"

"No." She replied without hesitation. "I'm simply sorry of how it turned out."
